Well it depends on how thick the metal is in the area you'd be dremeling.

I can't believe I never noticed that either! It actually looks a little different in other pics.

Looking at it more closely, the back end of that side cover looks slightly misshapen as well.

the barrel could be a bit longer and... cant see if its thicker than your last issue I know that the barrel was thinner than the prop
but YES! GREAT WORK!

What can I say? It's an astonishing piece of work by Siderio.

Some bits I'd want to modify, though:

The rear Steyr mounting
The profile and proportions of the right-hand cylinder cover
The lower flange of the RH cylinder cover (more square on the actual prop)
The position of the trigger guard, where it meets the grip frame
The shape (particularly the front curve) of the trigger guard
The rear corners of the Steyr magazine housing (too square; no holes)
The depth of the Steyr front insert
The chamfer of the barrel
The position, size and depth of the front Steyr mounting screws

It would be lovely to see the magazine components in black resin, too, rather than metal.

As I've said, though: that's just my preference; in no way is that a criticism of Siderio's work and all the effort he's put into it.

This kit is so tantalisingly, achingly close to perfection! Having seen the extraordinary quality of Siderio's work I'm sure he could achieve it should he choose.

Great work Siderio.

simple question - is the stamped number a touch too large in comparison to the world con? Is it just the angle or weathering on the world con that makes it look smaller?

Regardless - This is very impressive. Very Happy

I don't mean to pile-on here, but the thing that struck me initially was the buttplate... how thin it is in front (the little bit that sticks out under your pinky) on the Sidkit but how THICK it is on the prop.

I think the cutaway on the buttplate is perhaps cut something like this

I didn't get a real good shot of the "front" of the grip unfortunately, but it does seem to me that the "toe" as I call it, the little part of the buttplate that projects in front, is pretty thick... and in fact, is thicker in the MIDDLE (facing directly towards the front of the gun) than it is at the sides, if that makes sense..

I think you are right on this Karl, I need to goo look through those pictures again. As if I need an excuse Razz

BTW, I think those front two screws in the Steyr reciever are too high up and should be smaller and recessed into the reciever. The ones on the swing out part of the Cylinder cover do seem to be better, and a little more spaced out. I think the bottom one may be able to be lowered too just a bit more perhaps. The screw size also still seems a bit big, Maybe this is a difference in using metric screws. We are a stickler bunch arent we Smile

Sid: have you thought about making the led box in plastic? I think this would be a good option as it makes the gun a little lighter and is more accurate to the worldcon.

LOLOL, OK, I'll bite. You are referring to "Chew", right? Or were you referring to the actor, who is "James HONG"?

though would you still consider a plastic version as an option? some people might want a plastic one instead of metal, being more true to the worldcon prop.

Would you be able to offer some of the new kit parts seperately? as I might just convert my old kit like dan did Smile

I too would be interested in separate parts, and would love to see the mag and mag well in plastic, black plastic would be even better!

Ok, I moved out some of the posts that detracted from this thread. I moved many to the Pit so that discussion can continue if people wish.

The other posts I moved are the ones where Rich talks about the price of his kits. I moved that to the Prop Shop as it would benefit him there since he is still selling the kits.

Please know, I think both men do fantastic work and I will never take that away from either of them. I just want to keep the discussion on track with what the original author intended. Hopefully nobody feel slighted. If you do, please accept my apology as I am just trying to keep things going as smoothly as possible.

Thanks!

Tom

THANK YOU, AMISH.

FYI -- I am building a COYLE and a SidKit and will post a full review once I have them both done in about a month -- maybe less.

drmcoy,
Looking forward to seeing your review. I've seen some of your Mal pistol build-up photos on RPF and they were great!

Does the grip seem a little narrow to anyone else? Also in some photos the grip angle seems a shade too vertical. Both of these effects could happen from taking the photos from too close up?

Given where the shadow falls on the grip, it's actually kind of difficult to descern how narrow it is.

Maybe I just need to change my monitor settings though . . .
