Thought i'd share my current work in progress project. I always thought that the margarita glass was found object but i havent found anything similar. Its good to know that the basic shape is common so i purchased my glasses at Target. I also got a jar of glass etching cream at a local art store. This is my first attempt with etching cream and is not evenlly etching the glass, so any advice on that would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone else done the margarita glass?
Enjoy

Nice! It's on my to-do list, but I haven't gotten to it yet. There is also a rattle-can window frosting but that can be difficult to apply evenly as well.

Nick,

That is fantastic!! I have never even paid attention to that before. Thank you so much for sharing and please keep us informed!

Also, I edited your post so that all the pictures would be visible. If you want me to change it back, I will gladly do so.

Tom

Thanks for the edit amish. I have been researching glass etching and they are other two options...sand blasting and a liguid etching solution, where you mix with water and dip the glass in. I have two glass left so im gonna experiment with the liquid etching. I havent noticed the warning label until now. This thing is very corrosive and dangerous if used improperly. So use with precautions and safety.

Update:
So far i have also etched the stem and the base of the glass so paint will stick much better. I have also discovered that they are paints just for glass as well.

I found 3 off of ebay several years back. Quite accurate and quite broken upon arrival. Terrible experience with Canadian customs and the seller who almost immediately joined ebay's "no longer a registered user" club.

Do you have any pics of your find?

I've looked before with no luck.

Sadly No. I found them right after getting the color banded cordial glasses/dispenser in another auction from the same seller in Canada. I assumed they were as easy to find. Originally there were 4 in the auction. The seller broke one in packing and sent me three which were crushed by poor packing or repacking by customs. The cordial dispenser was packed on top of them and crushed the stemware. I was more upset with the seller and customs but had no darn idea those would be the only ones I would come across.Smile Recently started looking again...

I doubt I saved the broked pieces but may still have the dispenser and cordials boxed in same box as I kept the box after trying to file claims. I have a couple dispenser sets. lemme look but I imagine I would have tossed the broken pieces.

The stems were what I call vaseline glass similar to that of the depression era. Though I'd have to say these glasse are art nouveau. The vaseline effect gave it a frosted look but they were not truly frost etched.

I've gotten excited a few times when maragarita glasses really got popular. Unfortunately what I've found turned out to be acrylic! Sad

That too bad.

It's at least good to know that they do exist. I'll try and keep an eye out for them as well.

Hmm. I've been thinking about this for a while now. Never thought about the glass etching cream, I was just gonna paint that part white.

As far as the stem color, I always figured it for a sky-blue. *shrugs*

And now, I provide reference material in the form of a Hi-Def screencap:
