the only reference to BR curency (apart from the illusive tissue wrapper) is from southwells designs where he uses dollar symbols. so I'm assuming american dollars was the intended on world currency.
I started to make my own dollar bill design a while back from an old japanese "dollar" note. I ressurected the file and finished it off this evening.
wanted to make the design in the style of southwells stuff, minimal detail more symbols etc.
I also made five and ten bills, but wasnt too keen on them, so I scrapped them in the end.
Just need to wear these out and they're ready to fill deck's wallet, enough for a shot of tsingtao |

cheers guys
the prints I did were just a plain paper test. I'm gonna experiment with different types of paper or printer to see what gives the best results.
I was inspired by roboterkampf's silver printing on his notes, so might look into adding something like that on these if I can.
once I'm happy with the results I should be able to replicate a few to those who want them |

Sweet! Also try for an ink that won't run when it gets wet.
Already tried some weathering with less than stellar results. |

will ask the printers on that
I've changed the design a bit so that the shimato dominguez symbol carrys on verticaly like on the BR fan club certificate (courtesy of andy ). as a result I have encorperated a foil symbol and will look into ways of getting it hot foil printed.
the prints will most likely be laser printed. maybe spraying them with some matt varnish would protect the foil and make it fairly waterproof
really want to get that foil bit done, but if I cant then it's back to the old design. dont suppose anyone knows anything about hot foil printing? |

I have an idea that the "chin yen"are some kind of scrip for immigrants. The standard currency is still dollars I really like your design Beastmaster.I think the large number of Asians evident are immigrants trying to find some way to get offworld, the heavy police presence is to keep them in line, none too gently it would seem. |

There never was a Chinyen.
It was made up by a certain wallet producer. |

Chin-Yen were made up by Ben Mund(whitefall), not Phil.

Either way it's made up.
But everyone seems to take it as canon that Chinese money was used as a base. |

Wasn't chinyen made up for the PC game actually? _________________

yep, chinyen originated from the Blade Runner pc game.
I looked up hot foil printing, but it's very expensive and something intended for larger scale printing (ie. corperate) so I think the more cheaper option is cold foil printing. but I'm having trouble finding anyone that specializes in that.
I might just offer the previouse design up and make a one off new design for myself and silver marker in the foil bits |

On my old HD I had links to places that sold printer foiling kit's.
Check on line stationary stores. |

I got the notes laser printed onto some fine linen paper and the results are fantastic! The print quality is superior and the surface texture looks and feels like real money
I might have found a way around the foiling. I'll keep the original design for the front which has no foil, but at the back I can manualy mask and draw in the barcode by hand with a silver marker. I did a test with this and it looks good. it's a bit of extra work for me, but I dont see any other way around it. I gues it makes it more of an authentic blade runner prop when its hand drawn
The only problem I have now is that the back print was slightly out of alignment with the front, so have to get that cleard up with the printers. after that I will start to offer these out.

What about a rubber stamp and metallic ink? Probably won't find a "barcode" stamp, but I'd think one would be fairly easy to make from scratch. I've never really scoped stamps & inks out, but I recall seeing something like a "rainbow" ink pad that might give something of a holographic effect.... _________________ - Brian (formerly ToothTech)

thats a good idea toothtech, but as with the silver pen I realized that ink just isnt gonna cut the mustard compared to real foil.
Instead of the whole heat foil thing I was thinking of getting some custom holograms made. but these are something like £290 for a thousand! and I dont think there'll be enough interest in these to cover that cost
I think I will leave the note as is without the additional silver, keep it simple.
right now I'm waiting to see if the printers can sort out the allignment on each side of the page. if I can get that right on my inkjet you'd think their machines can do the same |
