Ben,

I can tell you are having a blast.

I'm sure enjoying your work.

So, how many little hidden details did you incorporate into the map for us to find on our own.

I did load it up with a bunch of stuff - but unfortunately I think it's all unidentifiable in the chaos.

I did keep one thing clear, though, which I'll hold off on becuase I think I might have a little contest.

Anyway, I just finished!

I added a text overlay, the idea being that this is a satellite map that's included in the full report of Deckard's replicant hunt, showing his movements on that day. I ended up stripping it way back from what I had originally intended.

Here's the whole thing:

And a couple of details:

And the sectors, which are based around City Hall (built over the actual location of City Hall):

... now I just have to go get it printed to see how it comes out.

Really cool man, I can't wait to see how your print turns out. I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that I'd love one myself.

Chaos is good.

Text is sweet. I see date stamp, would a time stamp be appropriate as well?

I like the text overlay, but personally I would want something a little more subtle, perhaps just "Los Angeles 2019" in one of the corners, or centered at the bottom ... Not that I want to dictate your art, I just think the overlay is a tad overwhelming.

If you are set on the overlay, I have a couple of suggestions. If you are going to use a retro-digital typeface like that, I think the rest of the overlay should match. The rounded corners of the boxes, and light rounded stroke of the symbols don't really jive with the blocky type. I would decrease the size of everything in the overlay, make it a much smaller element on the poster. Also, I would make the green type a little darker, as it stands out a little too much as it is.

Finally, "Deckard" is spelled wrong. Smile

Please don't take offense to my suggestions, just some crit from one designer to another. I am going to buy your poster regardless of the outcome, and I'm in awe of your skill!

Thanks for the heads-up on my fat-fingering of "Deckard"!

As for the overlay, I'll probably keep the look, as I had done it even simpler before and it just looked too simple.

As for the size of the overlay, anyone else agree? Too big?

I like the overlay. Brings it all together for me. I kida wished it had some more of the orange hue all over that the film had. Then again the green works good with what you have there.

Ok, I think (crosses fingers) that it's now done. I'll go have it printed and see how it comes out. I corrected the spelling and kanji errors, edited the text, shrunk the overlay, and did some noodling on the main image, including making the cast more orange:

... and the overlay:

...and one more little nugget I tossed in:

even a low orbit sattelight would not have any foreshortening...it would have to be about the same distance as the low flying planes that do the MS global map...they even use them for the Google earth for all the detailed high resolution shots of cities and such....that is why you get the different angles from them because they are patched together from different flights. Same idea from the higher altitudes for the global shots using the sattelights. The low flying planes are usually just a bit higher than the buildings. That is also why the pictures change on google maps as you get closer because it switches over to the images from the planes.

Whitefall there was talk before about making an online version. It would be super cool if you made a flash version, with zoom controls, a la Google maps. That would be really neat. My flash skills are not at that level, but I'm sure someone here could easily whip something like that together...

Hi all,

I think it's done. I got one printed:

I know a few people were interested, so I'm going to have some fun with this.

First, I had originally wanted to send some of the money to Tom (Amish) for upkeep of the board. But he generously asked that if I do that, to please send it to the American Diabetes Association. So that's what I'll do. $10 each of the first (or only) five posters will go to the ADA in Tom's name.

Second, I have a little contest. I included the Ennis-Brown house somewhere in the city sprawl. The first person who correctly ID's it and posts it to this board will get a set of Blade Runner "Off-World" money that I did.

You can see pics / price of the finished print at the link below. Please remember that if you e-mail me about getting one, put "PROPSUMMIT" somewhere in the subject line so I know to use it toward Tom's donation.

Thanks!

Whitefall, also a couple questions:

Earlier in the thread you mentioned this:

As well, someone asked if the poster would be around 27" x 40", is there any chance of getting a larger sized poster?

Thanks, jessejericho.

Let's see... good guess, but nope! If you need reference, you can always look up an image of it from the sky on google (hint, hint).

The prop I was referring to was this:

http://propsummit.com/viewtopic.php?t=190

And as for the size, I could probably expand it (I think the resolution would hold up, although it's designed for its current size at 300 DPI), but it would get kind of pricey. Let me know what you'd like to do...

I cannot find the thing... and I've been looking for a while. Are the photos you've released of high enough detail to spot it?

Also, I hope its not too late, but "Perimeter" is spelled wrong on the overlay. Shocked

considering the resolution of the map here, there are a few things that come close and that are partially obscured, but this looks the closest to me...
