This gun was very hard to glimpse in the original theatrical cut of ALIEN. Mostly it was just visible in the holsters on the space suits.

The Director's Cut restored a few seconds of Kane pulling the pistol, moments before the facehugger strikes.

Photos of a prop in Bob Burns' collection have surfaced

I own an early Shawn Morgan replica, which was built by Jason Eaton.

A later replica by Shawn is more accurate.

Isn't this pretty much the same gun used in the Cantina scene in Star Wars, albeit with a scope mounted to the bottom of the gun?

Yep, but it was displayed on the cover of STARLOG #26 and in THE BOOK OF ALIEN (in France it was released as a special edition of METAL HURLANT, with a different cover... and all texts translated into french, of course), that's where if first saw it... and immediately fell in love with it !

Here is my NOSTROMO GUN, a second generation Shawn Morgan kit built by him. I've replaced the bottom scope with a screen accurate Star Wars / rebel blaster scope from Master Replicas. I still have work on this one to make it look closer to the screen-used gun(s) but I think it's a good start !

BTW, Steve and Richie (ALIEN EVA SUIT project) told me a 3rd generation Nostromo gun was currently on Shawn's bench... Can't wait to see it !!!

Looks like on the prop they closed the bolt opening and ejection port and removed the bolt handle. From the script they were supposed to be rail guns so they were not necessary.Cameron's weapons are kind of low tech next to railguns but I guess he didn't think anyone would know any better.

He he, thanks Amish... Looks like this one's going to be the next "gun addicts" favorite on propsummit !!!

OK, here is a close-up of the belt and "holster"... could be useful for those interested in adding it to their EVA suit !

Hm.... looks like Kane is a lefty! He has his gun holstered backwards.

In the actual scene where he draws it, he uses his right hand.

Also I've never seen a pic of just the holster by itself, but it kind of looks like just some sort of clip with a strap to hold the gun in place...

Similar pic from the same shoot, but it's in color off the DVD and less detailed.

Sure, why not... Hyphen posted my Worldcon pics without my permission on HIS site, so why not return the favor.

Anyone know what the story is with the smaller one in that photo? Would it have been the ones the Ridley's kids would have used?

(Sorry if it's a dumb question, i'm still learning about these weapons in ALIEN Smile )

I've got a newer one that i plan on using for a Stormtrooper pistol. Very cleanly cast and hollow. Weighs nothing.

The main difference between the old and the new is the chekering on the grip and end caps and it has a 'plate' on the top right side.

I definitely need to get another one and make an Alien pistol.

Never noticed this before... Lambert too had a pistol !
This means that 3 of those were actualy made for the film, not 2 like I've ever thought... interesting...
