The one at the Scif-Fi museum is the same one that was sold at PIH and also the one that fell off the back of the truck. Read the article on Bladezone here...

More of Bryan's research here...
http://media.bladezone.com/contents/film/production/props/spinner2/flight_of_fantasy.php

It looks like it fell from a crane rather than from a truck.

Thanks Andy, theres a pic in this one of the spinner as sold and it still looked amazing before the meticulous restoration and im now clear on the whole story.
Getting an icon you could actually sleep in for 60+K represents much better value i think.
Still, there are a few lottery draws between now and the auction.........

Wow! All I can say it's going to go for WAY MORE than the estimate!

IF, and I say IF the description is acurate, and the green LED's light up from the same on/off switch, then what the heck are those wires running up to the laser pointer for?!! Oh Karl, if only you had had the courage/audacity/idea to throw that switch!!!!

However, I think it slightly odd that the other side of the blaster is not shown, even though there are 2 pictues in the catalogue and with the Red LED's clearly on that would have proved the statement was correct. Aslo, we know that there are 5 Red LEDs, so I think that is merely an oversight by the person/s who did the write up.

So does anyone know when PIH are actually auctioning the Hero? I can't find it on their site.....

Yeah, from now on whenever I see a switch, I"m flipping it to ON no matter what.

Interesting that the auction notes claim that the one switch operates all the LEDs. Certainly there are or will be opportunities for prospective bidders to examine the prop, so let's get going on finding out the facts!! Cool

Perhaps John Long will provide some details on his observations.

My personal theory is that the white wires might have something to do with firing a pyrotechnic charge to simulate the gun's big boom, but that is totally hypothetical and I don't know if it's really a possibility.

Do any of the PIH auctions have a public viewing where the stuff can be seen in person? I never thought about that. We need to look into this.

They certainly do, although I'm not sure what the access to something like the Blaster would be.

The pieces they brought to Comic Con in 2006 were very accessible, and pieces were taken out of the display case and demonstrated on request. I was able to photograph the TOS Tricoder shown there for example.

So yes, let's get more eyes on this blaster. Flip the switch. Pull back the bolt. Pull the triggers if you dare!

Lol, now that's the right attitude, Karl... If it says "ON", heck turn it on man!!!

Seriously, we really need to find out an auction date and then someone among needs to arrange a pre auction inspection. We HAVE to have the answers to all our questions before this beauty dissapears into some rich guys private collection for another 25 years!

Great pics by the way, thanks for the link. Who is that lucky guy then? Is he a PIH employee?

Just like for the original Luke Skywalker lightsaber, I really do hope it will go to a museum.. I know that my comment might be considered impopular here but... so much money for a piece of rusty metal and plastic.. oh well...

I took the liberty of restoring the 1981 photos a little... I left the "Original Prop Blog" logo on them to identify whose pics they are. If that is not all right let me know and I'll take them down.

I am amazed that these photos were held in secrecy for so long, well not totally. I wonder what other Photos are in the same archives, and wonder if an "Art Of.." production art book could be made from all those photos?

Points of interest of course are; no white wires, no Weaver knob, and no rust Smile. Also the green LED's do not seem to be illuminated in the pictures while the red ones are.

Very interesting.

These pics are amazing!

Knew the weaver was an add on!

Also look at that nice deep blue finish - no bare steel there.

I was not able to completely eliminate the color cast, so I think you are actually seeing bare steel on the Steyr receiver. I could be wrong.

In any case the Steyr part is a different color than the Bulldog parts.

I agree the Steyr looks closer to bare steel to me. A bit of bluing as is it is in the WC photos. The older pictures do not have a diffuser for the lighting and arent reflecting it as the background.
