Got my full size Alien Flamer kit in today, and wow am I impressed.
It is basically a very heavy resin kit, with crisp lines, and very detailed.
Many, many parts are included, even the gas bottle valves and knobs.
I am surprised how complete the kit is, it includes plastic tubing, acrylic rods, screen, even the metal gas line, and in my opinion a very good investment. The shipping was lightning fast, and the seller a pleasure to deal with. As with any resin kit it needs some minor prep-work, and fitting, but the detail is excellent.

On this thread as I get time from the Nostromo and other projects, I will do a step-by-step build-up of this kit. Tomorrow its off to the hardware store for some very inexpensive supplies to get started!!!!

I wish I had the room for a prop like that. It looks well put together, very nice.

I'll wait for Shawn's new improved version but I can't wait to see what you're going to do with this kit, it already looks great (nice castings from what I can see on your photo) !

Hey Fred, how about the screen capture of Parker slamming the flamer down on the table? from what I can tell on my dvd, this will only need minor mods..pretty damn close !!

Tonight I worked on the gas valve. The valve is a 4 piece part that is pre-pegged to fit perfectly into the side body of the incinerator. The body of the gas valve is simply trimmed with a razor blade, primed with some gray, and then painted brass. I used some ACE hardware metallic brass paint. The pressure knob is painted with Krylon Fusion paint for plastic, I chose black satin. In the backside of the knob, I drilled a 3/8 inch hole about 1/4 deep, and used a 3/8 inch furniture dowel with a bit of 5-minute epoxy to permanently attach the knob to the valve assembly. The dowels can be found at Ace hardware, and are about $3 for a couple dozen. The knob has writing on it that says "push to lock into place"..and a center dimple. To make it look more real, I will counter-sink a small screw into the center with a funky security head to make it look functional. The brass paint I will add some wear later when I do more assembly.

Cool, how long do you reckon it'll take you to build it up?

maybe a few days of spare time between Nostromo parts...

I actually do have a day job LOL!

Maybe next week I can have this done. all finishing materials cost me 35 dollars, (paint, wood dowels, glue, assorted cheap stuff)...

so not too painful..

Yes JT, that's the way to go. Love the idea of the screw; makes it more real and true to reality (love the paint job by the way)

GAS BOTTLE ..

After applying a bit of spot putty along the seams, let it dry 20 minutes, then cut off the small casting "plug" off the top off of the bottle flush with a Dremel.. then drill exactly a 1/2 inch hole 3/4 inch deep into the top of the bottle. then in the center of that hole, drill approximately 1 1/2 inches deeper with about a 1/8 inch drill bit.. so a hole within a hole.

in a sink, using about 400 grit sandpaper, spend about 5 minutes sanding down the entire bottle.. spend a couple minutes down the seams..leveling down the spot-putty... the seams and any minor blemishes will virtually disappear, then squirt a small amount of dish soap on it...rinse thoroughly, and paint three coats of red.

I tried Safety red, but its not correct. I recommend cheap NOW spraypaint part #21217 WAGON RED. This is very close.

After the paint dries, insert the gas valve into the tank, and using the smaller drill bit, drill a hole through the gas regulator valve into the tank, then change the bit to to a 13/64 bit, and "chase" the smaller hole all the way through down into the tank. disassemble the parts, add a healthy amount os super-glue into the hole in top of the tank, re-insert the gas regulator valve, and screw in a 3" deck screw through the top of the valve into the tank...and its solid as a rock.

I hit my tank with a fourth coat of paint, and hung it up to dry overnight.

...Now back to the Nostromo...

Thanks for the pics Andy!

check this picture out, Its of an incinerator on Martin Bowers site.. here you can see it has extra detail on the side, and the spark-plug is mounted on the right side of the barrel rather than the left on the prop store of London version... the squeeze handle trigger is absent from the rear grip,..

also It lacks the beveled angle on top rear between the body and the stock, and that gas valve knob is completely missing. I guess thats what they mean by "rigging up three or four incinerator units" ...

Is that another tank in the "stock" portion? That would be 3 tanks 1 for the pilot light(though it seems a wate of weight and capacity) 1 for fuel and 1 for propellant?

excellent question. The tank in the stock is the one that actually powered the incinerator
