Posted: Tue Jun 30, 2009 5:50 am Post subject: The history of Blaster kits? |
|
|
Waaay back in the early 90's i built a Garage Kit of the Blaster. Dunno its origins but it was solid resin with the triggers etc as seperate resin castings and no clear orange grips.
It made up into a pretty nifty, nicely heavy replica.
But i sold it a few years back and always regretted it.
Filling the gap with a kit from the guy over in Australia, which i'm looking forward to building and lighting.
And its got me to thinking:
Has anyone ever tried to list the various versions that have been released over the years?
I'd like to know the origins of my old one and how the one on its way fairs in terms of accuracy etc. |

Heh...well I have been trying to collect every version when I could so I can do a real hands on look at them as well as get photos of them I didn't need permission to use. I am a long way off but I might be able to use what pictures I have collected off the web now to do a visual ID thread(s).
My idea is to have one thread with medium/small pics of each version in a kind of chronological order, then a link to a thread devoted to each one where everybody could post their own pics of that version.
In the mean time I hope what I have done so far can help for now though.

MM,
It also sounds from your description that you probably had the "SSG" version of the gun which was a common kit found in England and sold by Comet Miniatures. It was based on (recast) from the Marco Enterprise gun(US), which in turn was a copy of the OZ Shop gun(Japan). I have a copy of the "SSG" and I will try to post pictures tonight.

Ta for all the pointers folks and the excellent thread links.
Yeah, got a feeling i did get it from Comet so that's that identified i guess.
Would like to see your pics of the beastie.
Haven't got pics of mine, just footage of when we "remade" parts of Blade Runner one night on the roofs of the cinema i worked in at the time and i was Deckard 'cause i had the gun, a stockman coat and a short haircut.
Mebbe one day bits of it'll appear on Youtube |

I couldn't find the pics I had of it, so I will have to take some more.
It does look pretty much like this though.
Only with a few more parts.

I want to make a correction. It is also probable that the Comet Miniatures "SSG" was made directly from the OZ Shop gun and not the Marco Enterprise version.
My old archive is not accessible right now, so it is hard for me to reference the pics that I used to come up with the original timeline.
The OZ Shop may have been one of the first kits made of the gun. It's large size may have been why it remained popular, and was copied for so many years even with more accurate copies of the screen used stunts that were much smaller around at the same time period.
