Thanks but, all i've really done is tilt my wrist until the resin in the container in my hand spills into the mold or mould.
What I think I may do with the "open" variety is leave the back layer choice up to the individual. All they will need is what ever 16x16 material they choose to back the open tile- clear, translucent, opaque, seersucker, tweed or rice paper! |

I've had a concern about vacforming since I first considered building an MDF plug for vac pulls.
The 16x16 surface cannot possibly hold the desired sharp line detail without some holes being drilled in the deeper more central portions of the pattern.
Try to determine where to place these holes for maximum effect and minimum chance of marring the pull has been a real concern.
What if the pulls were done with a plug made only of the white resin portion of the clear/white tile exhibited above?
That would mean the plastic would be pulled down where ever the dark lower section are because they would be open to the vacform hole grid.

Rick,
Given the fact that the production tiles had limited definition, almost a rounded off appearance. Do you really need to drill holes if a sharp line isn't needed?
Thanks,
John |

If you made small enough holes (ie the same size as the holes on table) it really shouldn't show much if at all.

I am thinking about going in a different direction while you guys do what you do. I am thinking about creating a stencil set to do a painted version of the tiles to cover an entire wall. I am thinking at least three sets of stencils to do the the shadows, deep shadows, and Highlights (maybe the window cut outs too). Look at my avatar for idea. It would be a cheap way of doing an entire room. It won't be as cool, but could work for those of us who rent and those who only wan't to tile up part of a room and do the rest with paint. |

I have the link in one of my posts in the archived BR threads at the RPF.
Sadly, the site is there but they shelved the Ennis virtual. I emailed them, and I think the webmaster and asked if they could put it back up or maybe even make it downloadable, but never heard back. maybe an email campaign? |

As long as the holes are 1/32 and the plastic is .060 or greater you won't see them on the outside. (I would think .080 would be best for these) I form with a high-vac set up and even with the thinner gauges of plastic the 1/32 holes don't show through. For what its worth there will be holes-a-go-go in the MDF moulds I'm building. As far as pulling over the cut-out version as is, I think you are still going to have problems with trapped air. _________________ Wait; I'm having one of those things! Yeah I re-emailed them again after the Ennis - bBown tour kept freezing up. They have it running nicely now.
Precinct, how close to being accurate are the color tones of the blocks in images to the real thing? |

I have to say that finish looks great! It's very much like the sandstone Hollyhock wall hanging I have. |
