Yep Joberg, Belgium rules !
(and welcome on the board, 8th_passenger !)
Regarding the feathers, I think mine were "Royal blue" iirc...
I've talked with Dennis Lowe today, he told me that alas he couldn't finaly get in touch with the prop guy who worked on A L I E N (looks like he completely disapeared), so unfortunately we'll never know what was written on those hats...
Well, one guy surely knows, but I don't think I'll have a chance to ask him someday...

I'll start saving my airmiles for that trip to Belgium but in the meantime I'll keep a look out for blue feathers closer to home |

Talking about the various props seen in the background on the nostromo, let me introduce you to one of my favourites, the most beautiful coffee machine in the world, and thanks to Ridley Scott in outer space too!
The Braun Aromaster KF 20, designed in 1972 by Florian Seiffert was so far ahead of the competition in both looks and technology, reflected in the price of DM139. A design icon in the same vein as the Eames recliner, and the Barcelona chair, in demand by photographers, interior designers and creative types, wanting a futuristic icon of the time.
The KF 20 came in white, yellow, orange, red, dark red and olive! It featured a coffee pot with a enclosed plastic handle, Brauns unique closed filter system also known as the c-principle , this put the water resevoir directly above the coffee filter which gave it it's distinct profile, as oppose to the water resevoir to the side known as the L-principle.
The KF 20 was produced for five years unchanged, when the KF 21 came out the machine was identical to its older brother, the only difference being a slightly tweaked glass jug with the open handle design, the inclusion of a thermostat slider on the front of the hotplate and the reduction of colour choice to just white, yellow and orange. the beauty of this machine is that it could be produced today and still look ahead of its time!
Ridley really does love his Braun kitchen products, in BladeRunner he kitted Deckards compact kitchen with the Braun MP 50 multipress the type 4045 coffee mill grinder the HL-1-70 desktop fan ( HL-1 1961 HL-70 1970) and the KF 35 "Traditional" coffee machine.
Not surprised Parker and the nostromo crew loved their coffee so much.
These machines can still be found occasionally on ebay, if lucky they still work perfectly, I recently picked up a pristine white KF 20 from germany for under £25, just add a schuko plug adapter add coffee and water and enjoy!
......
Here below is the KF 21 in orange, yellow and white finish, with the hotplate thermostat slider and coffee jug with open handle design.
Here a KF 20 in olive green.
Here showing the two versions of the coffee pot.
Advert for the Braun KF 20.
Here is the KF 20 in orange, same version used in the nostromos kitchen, featuring the enclosed handle coffee jug.
nexus42
enjoy!

Hey, excellent work Nex42 !
I had always wondered what kind of coffee machine they had in the Nostromo galley... (they have 2 actualy, IIRC)
I was far from amagining it would be a Braun product, just like in BR !!!
(but now that I see it, it makes sense after all)
Beautiful object (just like the Braun table fan they used in BR), thanks a lot for sharing with us !!!

Thanks for the kind words gents, have been away so unable to post a reply until now.
Glad to provide the information, it certainly came as a surprise, I had originally thought these could have been Krupp made like the coffee grinders, or even Black&Decker, but it would'nt be a Ridley Scott film without a Braun product, although spotting these in the Duelist's, Gladiator and the Kingdom of Heaven might be a tad tricky?
As a matter of interest Fred there are in fact four Braun KF 20's all together, two directly across on the opposite side of the kitchen, a duplicate mirror image autochef complete with two more KF 20's. These can only be glimpsed occasionally in the behind the scenes photos on the dvd, and not forgetting the large white tea/water urn on the breakfast bar section of the galley. |

Well done, JT !
You'll have to think about a second bird to dress your kitchen table Nostromo style !

Found this pic I should have posted here a long time ago...
I know it's not screen-accurate at all but it was my best attempt at recreating this thing...
BTW guys, any idea what those mobiles were made from ? The translucent elements look like hardware parts mixed with square japanese border designs to me...

Excellent Fred...I think it's close enough in my book. Also, thanks to you, I noticed another Med-Tool hanging at the right of Kane's head ...is there no end to my Alien prop search? |
