I must admit, i do like the SW sequels, some more than others.
I don't think of the other alien movies and sequels, more like a different franchise altogether. There is only one ALIEN movie Smile

I agree Fred. No need to throw out the baby with the bathwater. The worse the movie is the easier it is to ignore it.

Also as people mature the more recent crap movies will hopefully lead them to the more mature movies like ALIEN and BR. It may even lead them to reading books like Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, and looking at more artwork by H.R. Giger, and Moebeus.

Hi jtparker, seeing your flamer kit come together has made me want to get back into building one of my own. The ‘Incinerator Unit’ was something I first had a go at between 1986 and 88 as shown here.

Not a bad first attempt! I was quite happy with it at the time. There is a lot more reference out there now and mine is slightly too big. It’s also very heavy. A friend of mine convinced me it needed to be heavy for realistic weight, so I put some box section steel in there. But when you watch the film they look really light.

So over the past few months I’ve been redrawing my plans in preparation for rebuilding it next year. I think it will be a bit of a hybrid as they were all slightly different.

Good build 8thpassenger. Well, I think that the original prop had some weight...hence the strap

Thanks to all who have said nice things about my incinerator unit. I’ve been obsessed with Alien since the film came out, not that I saw it in 79 (I was only 15) but I bought the ‘Book of Alien’ then and was instantly hooked. It was one of the first props I made (The other being Deckard’s Blaster where the reference was even less). I’m really happy to find other people out there who share my interests (obsessions Very Happy ).

I built the Incinerator unit while I was at Polytechnic in my spare time. I think I mostly made it in my room bringing parts home as I made them in the workshop. Here are some photos of its construction. Along with the steel it’s got a lot of aluminum and copper/brass pipe in it. No wonder it weighs a ton.

Thought I'd post a few pictures of the progress I'm making on my improved flamethrower. I'm still in the plans stage but have made enough progress to upload a few images of the CG version. I hope to get some parts laser cut and other parts CNC milled. Shown is a CNC test of the 'nozzle end' in a green foam. The overall construction of the main body will be hollow like my previous version.

The three CG images are only work in progress so are a bit square edged. I'll add the rads in and more detail later when I'm happy with each part.

The finished unit will be a hybrid of the ones in the film.

Looking great 8th passenger! You have got all the little round bits on there and it looks very hefty! For the spark plug I used a BOSCH spark plug, and a coil wire from our local Ford dealer (I just walked in and asked them if they had an old coil wire HA HA)
I am looking forward to seeing this being built, keep up the good work and the pictures coming!!!

BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!! Shocked Shocked Shocked

Thanks jt & joberg for your comments.

I'm going to try and crack on with the make over the next few months so I'll keep posting pictures as and when. This one is a lot shorter than my last but about the same width. But still looks proportional.

I'm tempted to do a flat card mock up of the whole thing as a comparison against my body before I start.

Very Happy

Nothing replaces a flat card mock-up when you're trying to build 1:1 scale props, especially weapons! Good idea indeed.

I just wondered if anybody could help me identify this part. I was going to just fabricate it but I noticed on eagle transporter.com somebody identified it as a Hornby 00 Gauge part. There was an ebay listing but it had expired. So I'm non the wiser.

Many thanks

Colin
