More BR goodness:
Syd Mead: Blade Runner and more...
Thursday 1:30-2:30 Blade Runner and More—Syd Mead will be on hand in person to recall his experiences while working on the motion picture Blade Runner and to introduce his newest DVD release: Visual Futurist: The Art & Life of Syd Mead. The DVD takes the viewer behind the scenes and beyond the images he created for this film as well as Tron, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, private 747s, games, yachts, cars, and a seemingly endless list of major design projects around the world. Syd looks forward to entertaining questions and providing his unique perspective on topics of design for the film industry. Joining him will be Paul M. Sammon, author of Future Noir: The making of Blade Runner, the definitive book on its subject. Paul will add his own anecdotes about BR's creation while divulging new details about his brand-new Second Edition Future Noir, due for publication in late 2007. See, If I had known this I would have waited to take my vacation and save up for it. especially now that my truck is broken down again with more costly repairs. I am glad I have been putting money away, but everything else has ideas of what I should use it for. Good thing I already got to see Syd Mead this past year. I so would have loved to be at Comicon this year though. |

Preliminary dispatch from the Front:
The new and extra stuff is 100% pure hawesome. The panels were all incredible and there will be another BR castmember signing at the autograph pavilion from 3pm to 7pm today. There was an earlier one where I had the privilege of meeting Joseph Turkel, James Hong, Syd Mead and super BR fan Paul Sammon.
I have everything on audio and pix to upload. The time factor might require me to do these uploads when I return to HQs but there's great stuff. And every time I mention to people that BR should get at least one screening at the Million $ Theatre everyone agrees it's a killer idea. The movie will only get a theatrical run in NYC and LA, by the way, although London and other International capitals is probably not out of the question. Prediction for LA venue: Arclight Theatre Hollywood, maybe in the old Cinerama Dome that is now part of the Arclight complex.
And for all my griping about the "briefcase" it is likely to not be as hideously expensive as the list price suggests. And there is more to it than just the disks and the briefcase. There will be special mystery goodies plus one that was revealed at the Warner Home Video panel: a little toy Spinner that is very Hot Wheels-like, complete with lift-up doors. Sweet. _________________ Sushi, that's what she called me. Cold fish. |

Thanks for the report MsGeek!! I watched G4's coverage to catch some BR related goodness, and all they had was an awkward interview of RS by Chris Gore, the guy who runs film threat magazine. He asked maybe the worst questions ever. It sucked.
Looking forward to the audio and pics!!!

Patience...patience...I will be uploading these as soon as I can. I've been wiped out...sleep deprivation will do that. But I will upload tonight if my strength holds out.
The roaming Roy Batty, Zhora and Raechel Tyrell were awesome looking. Alas, they cheaped out a little on poor Pris. Another thing: no Deckard lookalike. I know people who cosplay as Han Solo with the Rebel Legion: they had no excuse. All of these models were also instructed not to speak, Disneyland-style. That was weird.
I got some pix during the signing sessions too. Joe Turkel (Tyrell), James Hong (Chew), Joanna Cassidy (the REAL Zhora, now and forever), and Syd Mead participated, as did alpha BR geek Paul Sammon. I also broke down and got some signed swag. Joe Turkel was donating his signing fee to charity, which I thought was classy. And I couldn't turn down James Hong's granddaughter (I think granddaughter, she seemed too young to be a daughter) running around in the crowd with "I only do eyes!" t-shirts that bore artwork by Hong.
It's weird how Comic-Con was really light this year on brand new stuff, and much more nostalgia-oriented. It was also bursting-at-the-seams crowded, and the annoyances piled up rapidly. This will be my last Comic-Con. I went in 1995, and from 2001-on I've been going every year. It used to be the highlight of my year, now it feels like hard work instead of fun. _________________ Sushi, that's what she called me. Cold fish. |

OK, does that roughly translate as a wolf whistle?
Actually Sean Young looked pretty fine too, considering everything. But Joanna Cassidy is spectacular. And funny too. She should get more work. _________________ Sushi, that's what she called me. Cold fish. |

I've got the whole panel discussion as an MP3. 11.7MB, mono. 50 minutes. It never left the digital domain...it was recorded direct to CF on a digital recorder. Can I upload it here, or do I have to host it on my own webspace?
Let me know,
