Now that the Tomenosuke PRO has been released, I'm not sure how much interest there is for any more Offworld conversions, but let's see. I was inspired by RedArc's install build w/ a Blastercore v3 ( http://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/index.php?topic=27014.0 ) so I decided to do something for myself. Not having the electronics skills that other possess, I decided to do a standard rebuild of my Offworld with as much metal as possible (I purchased the model with their new metal receiver - very cool!). Mods include:

- metal barrel, bolt, butt plate, and gripframe - thank you Don Parker - they are a thing of beauty!!!

- metal sight rod from mspaw via Punctated. Such helpful members here.

- real vintage metal EE-8 binding post via www.phonesurplus.com.

- custom aluminum trigger guard by me (I secured it with a button-head screw instead of the original tongue/groove setup

- metal spacer for front binding post (I shaped mine with a U-notch - not canon I know, but I like the cleaner look)

extras include PKD LA Police weapon's manual, weapon's permit, Snake Pit matchbooks (thanks again Punctated), Phil Steinschneider-cool F/X leather holster, and inert black polymer .38 JHP rounds. See the attached link for pics ( sorry, I did not have time to take build pics due to my ever-present 3 1/2 yr old wanting to play with my blaster during fabrication - mommy hates me). Note some slight wear of the repainted parts due to my repeated holstering and un-holstering of the blaster. Enjoy!!!!

Proving that you can indeed trick out the Offworld into a decent model.

I agree with Karl. As an affordable base for a build, the Offworld is not too bad. Maybe we could convince Rich to make a set of replacement grips for these to get rid of their main problem. The Bulldog grip frame is pretty much the same as the 44 version. It will never be 100% accurate, but still durable and paintable, and the best one made for costuming.

So what is the big difference between a .38 and a .44? Is it only in the size of the cylinder? Or is the gun frame bigger too?

Since the cylinder of the Blaster is buried away inside the gun and not readily visible, is it possible to add the correctly sized grip frame and what not to an Offworld and get a size-accurate replica from it?

I wonder.

The gripframe for the bulldogs is the same for the .44 and the .38. The trigger guard from a Coyle grip would end up being too large though. Not by a lot though, and could be modified to some degree.

I agree, to me the size of the grip is the biggest problem with the Offworld. It would be great to see some kind of replacement parts for this.

Honestly, if the Offworld fit my hand don't know if I would have gotten one of Richs models. Glad I did though.

when I 1st contacted Don about metal parts, I asked him for an aluminum gripframe as well. He indicated it is currently too labor intensive/expensive to make them one at a time, but if enough people were interested in a run, he might be able to do it in the future..... come on Don, work your magic!

I like how you "pimped" your OffWorld...the pieces by Don and Mspaw are tops...only thing: you should paint the bottom of the canon black (you see that it's not hollow) Wink

Hello again all. I recently received, and installed, the latest metal part for my Offworld from the extremely talented Don Parker - the gripframe.

Having recently completed a major overhaul of a 2005 SIDKIT (which is ridiculously heavy btw) ending w/ a very "clean" paint job (as if it were just issued by the dept for field use) I decided to go the other way with my Offworld, and completely weather the bejeezus out of it - as if Deckard had been holding onto it for years after he and Rachel left (assuming they both lived past 4 yrs - which is another conversation entirely)

The new pics in my album show Don's metal grip before painting, weathering, and installation. Then on the gun itself. Then the completed Offworld w/ pics of my SIDKIT for comparison. Thanks Don for another beautiful piece of art!!. It killed me to mess w/ the nice polish he put on it, but cĀ“est la guerre. Thanks for looking:

Funny you should say that. I just remembered that I have an all-resin Coyle from the late 90's (lower left). Not sure of the extact model # though.

I have Don's butt plate, it was on my crappy MiM blaster, and just moved to my C model Off World and fits perfect, I just pm'd him after learning I might be able to get the other metal parts.

Yours looks fantastic, do you ahve more tutorials on your weathering?

Thanks! I hope you can get everything he makes. They are an excellent addition, and really give the offworld some nice heft. Don's parts are top notch!

as for weathering, I use some flat black paint where appropriate, judicious use of acetone on a rag, careful use of a dremel w/ a fine grit flap wheel, and some ultrafine grit sandpaper (1400 and 2000) around the edges.
