I spent months looking for one of those when we were working on the fan film. Never found it.
Good job!!
Now you just need a spinner to wear it in.
And you have to perfect that Gaff scowl when you wear it too:

Isnt that the same underhat that they used in Star Wars Return of the Jedi? I think all they did was add ribs to the top, a short rim and the doughnut.

Good catch. A hard to find piece at a good price.
Mine is a medium as well and is a tight fit. Damn my large noggin.
The fact that it doesn't have the AAC stamp is super awesome. Very jealous.
There are two different variations in the headphones used. One of the versions has littles holes in a section where another version of the same model doesn't. Gaff's version has the row of small holes. I'll try and get some pic of what I'm talking about.
One thing that I haven't looked into much yet is the striped wires running across the metal headband. Have you found an appropriate wire for this yet? I have yet to stumble across an similar wire in my casual searches for the last couple years.

Andy,
Whats your search perameter?
I often find that changing one word or adding dashes or Perenthesis can make all the difference.
Half the time when I find something I'm looking for it's by accident. |

I was going to wait until I took apart the headphones, just in case it was under the leather in the straps. I also thought about wrapping springs over the existing wires. Have you taken apart a head set yet? I keep looking for the ones with the holes after your Post on the RPF. Another problem is the oxygen mask clip. They are selling for almost as much as I paid for the helmet. |

I try different search parameters. I even try what could be a common misspelling. |

I tore apart my headphones already and squeezing the earpieces into the the rubber cups is a real pain. I recommend using a butterknife or something similar to help wedge them into place.
I got really lucky when I found my flight helmet. It came in a lot of two helmets, one correct model and one of another kind. The other however had the clip that I needed. The whole lot was only 30 or 40 buck if I remember.
The correct clip is also kinda hard to find as well. The ones I see on ebay and on military collector sites are usually a bit off.

A couple of pics of the Gaff an-h15 helmet with the head phones attached...
I have some voice tubes but they are too small so I ordered longer ones. I also am trying to get the mask clip too, but all I can find are different ones that don't really match. |

Have you gotten any further on this helmet Andy?
Mine is at about the same stage too.
I've always had a couple questions about he greeblies that I wanted answered before finiching it up but I'm guessing those pics will probably never surface.
I might move forward on this project soon and finally finish my Gaff helmet as best I can.

Just a little bit, I picked up the plantronics voice tube that seems to be about the right length, and the mask clip.
I have been collecting greeblies and electronics parts off of whatever I can find (have been for over 20 years actually) so maybe I can get close with what is left. My headphones actually had screw off caps so it fit in nicely. I have another set of headphones that I may use if they are more accurate. Who knows whether this prop will show up sometime with new pictures so I am purposely going slow with it, and making most alterations temporary for now.
I still can tell if it is the version with the microphone clamp on it or not. It looks like something is there, but it doesn't quite match the pics of the ones with the clamps, and it also does begs the question why they wouldn't have used the existing mike which is pretty cool in itself.
Also of note is that it is also used as the basis for some of the extras hats as well, including some of the taxi drivers seen on the DVD extras where Deckard spots the 'fish' scale for the first time.
Thank you again Nick,
Andy |

Andy, this will be the very first Gaff prop in the Fan Book... apart of origami figures, of course... _________________

I have some new pics of it that I may send. I am also looking into posting them at my Flickr account since I can post larger images than here or on photobucket.
Also don't forget the Gaff ID that was made with the help of members of propsummit.

I could open an FTP account to receive large images, no matter. Could send details in PM.
The Gaff card ID set. Well, I have one, but I don't know if its origin was this site or not. Will check it! _________________

More than 10 years have passed since the previous post in this thread.
Has any new information about Gaff's spinner flight cap emerged in the interim?
Has new technology enabled screen captures that show clearer details?
I've got parts that have been waiting for ages for assembly... including the correct AN-H-15 in an extra large size that fits my fat head perfectly. The Plantronics voice tube I have seems short, but the clear tubes on Plantronics headsets mount onto metal posts that enable the tubes to be extended to the user's desired length, and some screenshots from BR seem to suggest that the tube on Gaff's helmet was similarly mounted.
I'm still at a loss, though, for a lot of the greeblies and wiring.
So, friends... any news? _________________ "Your old titles mean nothing here... Captain!" |

I have spent some time looking at the scenes in BluRay, but haven' t had the ability to get good screen grabs. I did pick up another set of headphones with the holes drilled in the side like the screen used one. I also agree the metal part seems to be part of the Plantronics voice tube in the screen used one, just like they are supposed to. They are used on a bunch of different head sets with the same tubes. It is time to look at this again for sure. I have a few theories I need to test. Anybody with 4K screen caps they are willing to share?
