Hi Mike, I had not given it much thought, I am having to scratch build all of the details as the scale is out of anything available... even the thunderfighter engines I must scratch build. I do not know the millennium falcon that well (not a huge star wars fan) , but as I go along I may be able to spot something.

After really looking this project over, I realized I had to do some minor re-work of two of the "buildings" on top of the shuttle. There are some pretty serious discrepancies between the original studio model and the restored shuttle. One glaring difference is I built the rounded dome part like the original, and later noticed this part is flat on the rebuilt version.

this prompted me to look things over closely, and noticed I need to add a couple things, and remove a couple things to make it just like the original, only a few hours work though, nothing major. I even noticed the upper receiver dish is different on the restoration, as well as boxes on the side.

( The domed part was cast from the dished bottom of a spray can, I basically greased it up, poured resin into it, and hit the spray can on concrete to dislodge the casting.. came out about the perfect shape. )

Thanks Mike for the closer look at this thing regarding detailing.... and thanks Fred for your pics..they are invaluable.

Here! Here! Wink

I've tried to show the shape I'm talking about by outlining it in orange. It may not look all that convincing here, but I've seen a larger version of that photo and it was much more obvious.

Then the three-pronged 'fork' piece stuck on top of that is the Falcon's landing legs! This was the original, Airfix/MPC kit so the legs weren't very accurate IIRC.

So they definitely had Falcon kits in the workshop. I'd say it's a safe bet there will be other pieces stuck to that shuttle somewhere!

You're right Mike; looks like the pieces on top of the escape pod sections of the Falcon. Yes, lots of MPC kit in the shop, remember all those TIE fighter bodies stuck under the base of the mining towers in Alien?

It will be 3/4 studio scale, Bigger than the Nostromo model and in a fully detailed
easy to assemble kit with brass parts for the landing struts. This is a large commission I am doing for Lanboy, and kits will be offered.

I figured it is time to do some real off-the-wall models, and this will be very
accurate, easy to build and large model.. The Valley Forge I have already started scaling out and then I will do two ships from Saturn-3

I am going to university full time and am taking advantage of summer vacation to get these going.

Almost done reworking some critical parts back to the original Martin Bower shuttle before it was rebuilt. Fred's pictures are a huge help.

Just a little more rework on this front part, and I can finish out the rear half, I have most of those pieces done and will post more pics this weekend with the completed top pattern minus the antenna...

Thanks Guys!!

I am having a lot of fun doing this thing.. I have been wanting to do this for years.. but that pesky thing "time" and memory has always been getting in the way(fred I will send a pm) as well as the reference material that was not possible 20 years ago.

Now on this particular build I can find nothing to scale that would remotely match the parts Mr. Bower used on his miniature, so I have been having to scratch build a ton of oddly shaped boxes from thin polystyrene and making one-off detailing for all the little areas. I did manage to find a small Brit tank model kit that pertains to detailing on the bridge.. speaking of which, I got this far tonight after fabricating the last large box for the rear that encompasses the intakes. I had hoped I would have gotten further, but a couple of pieces stumped me until I went ahead and just fabricated them (wasted time looking through the junk box)

More work than I though Shocked But very therapeutic Laughing

The following pics show the start of the rear section and bridge looking over the top deck towards the front where the flight navigation radar will be situated, so you get an idea.

It's always therapeutic JT . Love the results and yes, it's difficult, sometimes, to find piece at the right scale Confused

Now casting the resin parts as I go along, making very rapid progress. As shown the parts are flawless, perfect copies without the slightest blemish.
This will be one hell of a kit, very heavy, more massive than the Nostromo. everything heavily detailed and no need for any scratch building.

To give you an idea, the taller front part with the "valve cover" looking parts on top and the sloped deck weighs in a 1/4 pound.. so this will be like a cinder block, but the entire model will go together very nicely, and everything will interlock into place.. you will see more later.

This is the last post until the Con Am 27 shuttle kit is complete and ready, and the original goes to the new owner Lanboy, (I do not want to give away too many details on the model, let me just say it is one detailed behemoth).

Any one here happen to have a decent image of the rear of the shuttle? I am referring to the side opposite of the one that has the downward looking radar dish. Any help would be appreciated!

So far I haven't been able to locate an image you don't already have. The design of the ship does suggest that the rear of the ship would have the same appearance as the front, but that's just a guess. I'll keep looking.
