A bit retrospective, but having chanced upon this thread I'd just like to point out a few factual errors. Firstly, the dire prognostications here have proven pretty much completely off the mark. Rather than a terrifyingly skilled elite hacker gang armed with AK-47s and bad attitudes, we were dealing wtih a single under-resourced opportunist, likely a 21yo from St. Petersburg. The 'under-resourced' part became clear very early on. It's also worth mentioning that the attacks on the perpetrator's site have been acknowledged as a major material assistance to the staff's efforts to purge rootkits installed by the hacker, amongst other things.
Oh, and we weren't all overenthusiastic 'kiddies', thanks. I'm 45, for example. Enthusiastic, guilty. Over, not so much...I knew what I was doing and rated the threat level about correctly.
Finally, Kristen's video may not meet everybody's high standards but she's a vet, not a presenter, and it was a hurried effort to get *something* up. Cut her some slack already! As it happens, the video has been one of the most useful tools we have in the effort to 'liberate' the stragglers and newly registered members at the fake site. Rightly or wrongly, a lot of people trust Youtube when they won't trust Google or Facebook. Go figure.
I have to say that if I didn't know better, I'd almost think I sniffed a worrying note of triumphalism here. That'd sour me a bit on this forum. Not that I've ever been a frequent visitor, but I've always felt it's nice to know it's here. I'd be sad if that feeling changed. _________________ A cup of tea, a sticky bun, and a cucumberrrrr sandwich... |

Kremmen, with all due respect I think you might want to re-read this thread.
I'm not sure where the dire prognosticating is located. It's a thread that discusses things as they happen for the most part. It does not predict.
I think you read way too much into the comments here. Triumphalism is not present. We're all members of the RPF, and certainly not wishing it ill. People support in their own way, some times that includes criticism.
Expressing an honest opinion, either positive, or negative, is welcomed here. _________________ I don't have enough blasters! |

I can only expressed what Noeland and others have said about the RPF take-over. I'm only a lurker at the RPF (for more than 3 years now) and always found the site to be an excellent source of info.
The whole thread spoke of that and also the future of all the talent (pros and hobbyists) that makes the RPF what it is today...the comment were made as events happened and we were only guilty of conjectures more than anything else. 20/20 insight happened and now we know better...we're humans after all |

It may have been my remarks that were taken by Kremmen as "dire prognostications"...and I admit they may have been overly simplistic and spoken in anger more at the sites direction from the past two years than the current situation. I don't feel as comfortable posting stuff over there anymore, and the tone has become much more juvinile, at the same time the big name name contributors whom I have always relied for advice seem to have been silent for some time now. I have a hard time feeling comfortable on a publicly advertised, and money making site that is basically about copyright theft.
It will take some time to see the true long term damage that the hack has or has not done. I will certainly give it another try down the road, but I will have a hard time FULLY trusting it anytime soon.
Still if you want to blame me for the negative comments I will own them. As far as lumping the rest of the members here with me as a group in it is wrong, and very factually inacurate. It seems to me that most, if not all have been supportive of the RPF. I too would like to see it succeed rather than fail, and wish theReplicaPropForum the best of luck. So I apologise for my reactionary and impulsive comments about the situation. I will sit back now and watch how the final scenes play out from here on out.

Yes, it's all back to normal.
Except! Last night/this morning they have been hit with a 'DDos attack' - basically malicious behaviour to stop people using the site. Wonder who could be behind that.
The staff are 'on it'. _________________ Mike

Looks as though it is under attack again according to art on his facebook page.
