|
|
I was just watching the 1949 movie "Whirlpool" with Richard Conte, Gene Thierney and Jose Ferrer when the Ferrer's character in a converstation with Thierney mentions his apprentice Taffey Lewis
Anybody knows other movies with names/refs used in BR? |

That is a fantastic find. Very cool! I wonder if Hampton was watching these films when he was working on the script?

Maybe, or he watched the film before and the name stuck with him during the years. One of my friend's name is Raven Drake and I always find hers to be special...if I ever were to write a story I would certainly include that name into it; probably what happened to Hampton |

At the very end of The Big Sleep, in fact the end title, has the same ashtray as Bryants. Its really big on screen and has a burning cig in it. _________________ Formerly offworld66 |

I have two finds; though they are not movies but TV shows.
1) I took this image from a Tv show called "Degrassi Junior High". There is a special effects book on the shelf with a spinner on the cover. Top left corner.
2) I was watching a South Korean TV show called "Two Outs, Bottom of the Ninth". The two leads were in a bar/restaurant and "One More Kiss, Dear" was playing in the background. |

I recognize that book. It is "Special Effects: Creating Movie Magic" by Christopher Finch from Abbeville press. I used to borrow it from the library all the time before I finally picked up a copy. Has some great stuff in it.

Maybe. Having a friend's name stick with you is easier though. I am also pretty sure he was doing research in watching Film Noir films in order to get feeling for his script. It would be cool to ask him for sure if he meant it as an intentional homage or not. Either way it makes a great trivia question, and should be added to IMDB

Would be fun indeed! It's great to see refs like these by accident...the odds |

In the movie "The Soldier" one of the battles that the Kurt Russel Character was in was Tannhauser Gate. It's tatooed on his arm. There is also a wrecked police spinner in amoungst all the junk in the film. In the films commentary one person says that they would like to think the film was in the same timeline(a word I choose for lack of remembering how he said it) as Blade Runner. |

Another one of the campaigns he fought was called: "Shoulder of Orion".
Pretty sure it was the director who stated that he filmed the movie as if it took place in the Blade Runner "universe"... _________________

I have seen the movie about 7 times(for some reason). If someone had not told me the spinner was there I would have never seen it. Even after knowing it's there I will still miss seeing it. Definately didn't get their moneys worth for something that can so easily be overlooked.
The spinner is also 75% actual size as it has been explained to me. |

Good stuff guys, but I kinda remember a specific shot of Kurt Russel, rifle on his hip and standing amid ruins and cars and stuff and the Spinner is clearly visible in that one...maybe a publicity shot of some kind |
