Ok, as much as this might resemble Tim's Snub, I swear I had this idea years ago!! The idea was born out of a discussion I had with Jordan (RIP) at a Kropserkel Prop party years ago. We had discussed painting variations and I said that I thought a chromed PKD would be pretty cool. Mind you, at that moment, I didn't have any Blade Runner gun of any sort. Then, when I finally did, my first desire was to build it up as seen in the movie. But as time went by, the kit sat on the shelf as I slowly learned various painting techniques, and when I was finally ready to start I got the SidKit metal gun and the Worldcon BR prop was discovered, shaking the prop world. Thus I carried on with the SidKit making it movie accurate, leaving my Doppleganger kit open. So now, I have my first, non movie accurate prop!

I used alclad chrome for the main body, steel on the Grip frame, ejector port and triggers, gloss black on the trigger guard and butt plate. All screws were replaced and I also chose Blue LEDs (thanks again Exoray for the wiring advice) for the ammo and reds for the pointer. The Grips are Tortoise shell style. One thing I did add was a bit of detail to the inside of the grips, styled like the hammer kickback stuff (spring around a rod)

Well, enough talk...

Christ, that looks like real metal! The grips really set it off, I'm partial to the tortoise shell look myself--how did you do it?

If Tyrell had a version of the gun, that's what it would look like.

Absolutely Beautiful!

This is why I like the kit versions and seeing what people can do with it to make it their own.

I have been thinking to keep my Sid metal finish, and this makes it even more likely.

Thank you for sharing this.

Thanks for the kudos.

The grips were cast that way, if I recall correctly, the base colour is poured, then the darker brown is swirled in.

As for the Alclad, at this point it's not clearcoated. This is my first use of it, and I don't even know if you can clear coat the chrome. It's a display model so I wasn't too worried about that.

Supposedly, FUTURE floor polish can be used over Alclad with no clouding--never tried it personally.

My understaing, clearcoating ruins the alclad finish. I've also been told it can be reasonably handled without worry about dulling it.

And like I sai at the rpf, I love the choices you made in finishing this kit. Great job, great job, great job!!!

BTW, It doesn't resemble Timmay's snub whatsoever. Other than them both being silver based, and fantastic unique pieces based on Rick's models. Cool

Extremely convincing; great work!
I don't suppose I could tease some more info out of you on the marbling process on the grips? The way I understood you was that resin is mixed with a light color blended through, then poured into the mold, then the darker dye is swirled in on top....something like that?

Thanks,
jk

Is that one of the early PKDs? where the steyr reciever was a larger size? It looks to be about the same dimensions as my old PKD which has the bigger reciever.

That finish is great BTW. How did you get the grips that shiny? I haven't yet figured out a way to give mine that gloss finish.

That's my understanding jk, I didn't make the grips myself, they came with the kit.

The Kit is the PKDI from Rick Ross (Doppleganger) which has been out of production for a while.

Feel free to post some closeups on the grips. Smile

Just sayin.
