This is just something i was thinking about just now, about how many Blasters are out there. You think about all the Richard Coyles, Off-Worlds, Tomensouke's, Rick Ross's. That is a lot of Blasters. Every one has their own take on it, their own slightly different mold, be it in colour etc. It just goes to show popular the gun is, as per Adam Savage's piece on Youtube.

How many of us, have freeze framed every image of Blade Runner as well, when the Blaster comes into shot. It took me four hours to watch Blade Runner one time ha ha... Kept looking at the blaster, rewinding back...

The list is quite impressive; Andy has put an exhautive one: from Rich Coyle, Rick Ross, Off-World, Temo, etc and the addition of some new snub nose models: Dave G., Rick Ross.
Then you have the real shooters who have been built and are built as we speak Wink ...but that's another job altogether Shocked

I think I need to update the Blaster History and Glossary with the new guns coming out. I am still looking for information ones from the 80's and 90's. There were a bunch of garage kits that showed up only briefly, and I don't have enough information on them to even say much of anything about them.

I am always on the look out for a new one. You can never own just one. They become an addiction. I wonder if Harrison Ford was that impressed when he held the gun. I would have taken a paycut, worked for free, if i could just have owned the original gun.

Would love to see the complete glossary of all the blasters out there. Would love to see a book on it. Hope someone does it one day.

I think that a book just dedicated to the blaster could be...well, a blast . Lord knows that there's a lot of different material here to make it so.
Would be fun to fill this book, not only with pics but also interviews of the people who created them also...

I made my first mock-up in the late 80's using a cowboy cap gun
and PVC. The ironic thing being, I had no idea that the real gun
had a revolver at it's heart.
To me it just looked like a good place to start?
Lately I've been wondering if it's still in my mothers basement?
I have to go over there soon and look around. I'm sure you guys
would get a real kick out if it.

Over the years I've had several different versions.
a Rick Ross PK-D, a 1st gen plastic Coyle (that I sold for a small fortune
the first time he retired) LOL !! thx Rich.
a 1st gen Sid kit, 1st gen MIM offWorld (that I still have)
a Toma... world con pro. That really is the last one anybody would ever
need. I've never seen any "prop" as perfect and just dead on as the Toma.
You can see the correct bulldog serial # through the grips. WTF??
Being a prop maker myself. The Toma.. makes you feel like a total
slacker !! LMAO !! I have it hanging in my machine shop.
It's supposed to help me step up my game. And every time I get
frustrated, & feel like "F- IT !" that's good enough. I look the Toma,
take 5. And get back to work.

I'm really considering picking up one there kit versions?
If for no other reason, just to have it. or to use the pcs on a "real hero"
if I ever get to make one?
But I also want a W.C. Sid kit, (from the last run)
and 4th gen Coyle in metal. So what I need is to win the lottery. Razz

I hear you Ozewpaie...eager to see your first gun for sure.
As for the hero gun, I always had a funny feeling about the look of the whole weapon.
It's a mix of designs: German/American and it looks like almost every objects found in BR, exemple: the Vid-Phone, or the Voight-Kampff machine; it's always an amalgame of different pieces from different makers and that makes it interesting Wink

At the moment, i don't have plans to make an entire blaster.
It's just too much to take on right now.
Plus I may have something really big coming up? So I'm trying to
keep things as simple as I can.
So offering parts that people can use to improve what they have.
Is going to be the extent of my contribution for the time being.

I fully agree w/ what you said. I saw an interview w/ James Cameron
once. Where he talked about the secret of a successful prop.
Was to start w/ a found item and add all your mods to that. You mind
recognizes the item, and in turn accepts the prop as legitimate.
He used his own M41-A pulse rifle as an example. Being it was built
on the frame of a Thompson SMG. He also made mention of the
blasters in Star Wars, compared to the fabricated Phasers of Star Trek.
It was a really good point.

It would be nice to have photos of each BR that was made. I'm sure owners would pony up the pics.

I have the Hartford PFC..

My next two projects I am still collecting information on are a Blaster pictorial reference, and a Family tree.

That look really similar to an off world. I'm not sure which came out first?
But somebody really "paid there respects" to the other here. LoL !!!!

Yep. The Hartford's came out first, and the Offworld later. The base pistol on the Hartford is a S&W 38, and Offworld first made a resin version sold at Monsters in Motion using the Hartford Steyr parts and a Charter Arms Bulldog 38 as it's base gun. Many of the parts are interchangeable between them to some degree, especially the butt plate. The Offworld was reborn as a full factory production model the same year as Karl took his pics of the Hero at Worldcon in 2006, or otherwise it may have been the best selling version of the gun ever, but maybe Karma stepped in the way.

The guy who runs Monsters in Motion was also at Worldcon, and I know for a fact that he took his own photos of the original blaster. But you've never seen those pics have you. Shocked

Anyway I guess they decided to not spend the money to accurize their Offworld, since it would have meant throwing out all their expensive toolings and making new ones.

I've complained before that my first ever blaster was one of those early MiM kits - they were a complete disaster. They cast up every single part, including the pistol internals, but with zero QA. It went about as well as you'd guess. One of the triggers was missing the entire lower half.

When I got a Sidkit the next year, I was completely shocked at just how much bigger it was.

For all the kits that have come out, the original PKD is still my favorite non-accurate blaster. So very pretty.

Yep, the MiM one was so-so, but the one sold by FrontierModels in the U.K. was worse Confused I think it was a rererererererererererere-cast of a re-cast Rolling Eyes ...never again!

I just had to echo this sentiment. Having the Tome World Con Pro myself, I must say it's a beautifully detailed piece. My hat's off to Rich, though, for his attention to detail as well--when I was comparing my Tome to my Coyle for the first time, I noticed the serial #s you mentioned on both blasters. I remember thinking, "My God, who are these people? They're getting even these partially obscured numbers down accurately!"

They both have their inaccuracies and both are fantastic in their own way. The Tomenosuke's shapes are slightly more accurate to the hero, Rich's is dead on to the "police" model. Outside of that, each has its own thing going for it.

It's a shame that in addition to their new, more accurate parts that they released as kits (and whose new tooling was used for the assembly kits), if I read it all correctly they also made a limited set of bulldog frames in zinc. It would have been awesome to be able to pick a couple of those up.

I actually did a write up when I had both the Hartford and the Off-World in-hand. The Hartford is noticeably heavier and fits my hand better than the Off-World. The Off-World seemed to be slightly smaller overall. I also found the Off-World construction to be somewhat rickety. I could shake the blaster and it would rattle. The Hartford is solid with no rattles.

I ended up selling the Off-World due to these issues.

I got my Offworld back when they were pretty cheap. about $150 IIRC. It is a slight step up from a resin version, but because of the cheaper plastic it seems toy like compared to the Hartford. My Hartford rattles though, just not as much as the Offworld, or even an old RAC resin V3. I am still hoping to get my hands on an Tomenosuke at some point. as well as a RACoyle metal kit.
