Not sure who put this together Tom but got this pic with some other stuff for my replica a long time ago, someone was thinking along the same lines as you and Hampton.
Did you have an example pic of Deck`s mum ready to show SRS? Would love to add it.

This is a long shot Tom, do you know anything about Deckards personal briefcase? We worked out it was a Zero but it looked to my eyes that the prop dept attatched
a second lid on top of the case.
I put a replica together and turned the second lid into a portable Vid Phon for use by Blade Runners only. Looking back at it now, the slimline design doesnt really fit
in to the BR universe but there you go.

Offworld66,

I don't have a picture of Mum, but I think Deck may have had some on his
piano that he was pondering.

As far as your case goes:"that looks great."
I have no info on that case or
it's lid. Sorry. I'm really just a graphics guy on this one.

Tom, I was wondering if the V.K. logo you see on the web is the exact design? By the pictures of the V.K. that you'd posted it seems that a few details are missing from the web logo...am I wrong to think so?

Joberg,
This is the design that went to the engraver with the instructions:
Right reading, Black raised. As I discussed earlier: the lower parts were
black and the higher parts were white or stainless with sheen.
The plates were "chased" (cut and edges cleaned and rounded where necessary).

I think the VK you see on the web the most is based on the VK that was
put on the deluxe briefcase that held the 5 DVD set of BR The Final Cut (2007).
It was more of an outline symbol, an alteration of my original design
(which was supplied within the DVDs.) This was reused by others on
Tee shirts and other items.

I came up with the line: "VK: It takes one to know one."
(Seen in Signs Of The Times.) Which would be nice on a button pin.
Ridley felt 1. theres no place to use it in the movie., and
2. May give too much away about Deck and Holden.

I posted this with photos of the costume designers sketch and actual patch.
This was on the cops right arm.

On his left arm was a patch I designed as
a salute to someone who brought us all together. The font was the one I
used for the police logo. And I'm feeling it has a Moebius flavor.

I'm sure you ( of all people ) know who I am saluting.

Andy,
P.K.D. was very much alive when I did the patch design and while we
were filming. I would always ask if "PK" was on the set. Rid and Michael
D. would always say something like : "You wont see him." and they were
right. As it turns out his tenderness (and I mean a hyper tender ) was
what brought him to the themes he wrote about here and in other works
and it is this tone that Mr. Scott captured.
It's not a big salute but I'm glad it's there.

Thanks Tom for the response...I want to make sure it's accurate

Great pics also of the different badges worn by the police, I always thought that it was a great uniform with those particular patches.

BeastMaster,
I found the card again (not as easy as it sounds) and shot these photos
of both sides. I also found the VID PHON card that I sent to
Cinefantastique Magazine back in 1981 but it came back in pieces
( which reveals how Jack Neville and his team put it together !!!).

Sadly this stuff was never seen in the movie but I post it here to
satisfy your curiousity.

Thank you Very Much for searching and sharing this stuff Tom! This is pure art, and film geek candy. It is making me think more and more of doing a behind the scenes book on our own.

Thank you, Mr. Southwell, for the amazing revelations you have so generously shared with us.

You mentioned the concept of a gold badge in the wallet, perhaps based on the one you designed to be worn by the uniformed officers. Would this badge, carried by the late Morgan Paull (Bladerunner Holden), have been in keeping with some of the original concepts?

PostPosted: Wed Mar 20, 2013 9:09 pm    Post subject: Gold Badge? Reply with quote

Eltee,
The no badge for Deck was not my decision.
Every time the prop master brought it up (while I was present)
Ridley said he didn't need it (probably due to : "I'm twice as quit now.").
There must have been a scene between Deck and Bryant where he
slid the badge across the desk and said "F.U." based on the scene we do see.
That lost scene was a cliche so never shot or needed.
I don't recall ever seeing Deck with a badge in all the times he showed his
I.D. And I never missed it.
If Ridley wanted Deck to have a badge I would have recommend just
what I see in your photo. And I hope you noticed how similar Holden and
Deckard looked (no accident).

And you are all welcome. I'm happy to fill in some of these blanks
you seem to care so much about.

I know Morgan Paul was brought in as a stand in for Harrison Ford for the screen tests because he looked like Ford. I remember thinking way back in the late 80's when the "Deckard was a Replicant" thing was barely talked about, and thinking that the two of them were made from the same mold.

I think the badge idea may have been a fabrication by a fan looking to make a few bucks. It was pretty much disproven on the Replica Prop Forum that he never had one, even though he did have the tri-fold wallet. This is the first official confirmation of it though. Here is the page for the guy selling the first versions of these wallets and badges. I think he got the idea of the 3 dimensional badge from an image of the reused prop parts from a screen used card used on the 'V' movie that was separating at the lamination and looked wider at the bottom. Not sure about the badge though. Here is a better picture of another wallet that reproduced the first because I can't find any existing images of the original online of large enough size...

The wallet and the badge were supposedly based on a secretive screen used set. The details on the image here reproduce the badge and ID as sold in the above link. On the ID of the first one It was over an 8th of an inch thick, and metallic contacts were on the back similar to a cell phone battery. I know a local guy that has one that has let me look at it closely. It also contained Chinese money and old black and white photos. The Apartment card and VidPhon cards in the pic, are a later creation. I can not say for sure if the wallet was a con by the seller, the supposed owner, or perhaps actually based on an unused prop set. I was just hoping you could say for sure that you had never seen the I.D. shown or the badge even in concept form? It would be closure on an ugly part of the hobby, and hopefully put it to rest permanently.

Thank you so much again for sharing your time and work with us. I am still floating on cloud nine seeing all this new information.
