I thought we could start discussions here for the Hartford Snubby holster. A place to discuss ideas related to holstering just this one model.
If the Mods have no objections.
OK. Fire away! |

The Steve McQueen one is fun, maybe we need another strap attaching the holster all the way down to the belt. As bassnoir said, it's a heavy gun that ain't gonna be strap on your ankle (unless you're the Hulk) |

|

Per your request, Karl, I'm moving this to the proper thread -
Here's a couple of approaches for the Hartford prop -
Perhaps a strap could be added, down to the belt on the left side (similar to the first pic), freeing the need for such an extensive sling on the left.
Thoughts?

Horizontal hanging pistol in the shoulder rig is really nice. I've always like horizontal stowage.
The holster itself I feel should incorporate a thumb break. It's still the best retention balanced with the fastest access. The design of the Snubby is such that a thumb break strap will sit nicely between the back of the receiver and the top corner of the gripframe.
Perhaps we could do a double duty holster, one capable of being worn on the shoulder rig, but also with a belt loop so it can be worn on a belt too.

I think this blaster is asking for an all black rig with nickel hardware.

Does anyone in the UK have a Hartford Snubby I can borrow to examine and measure?

I spent some time last night comparing the three most popular snubbies:
1. Rick Ross
2. Hartford
3. Goldberg
Since the major difference in dimensions is length, it seems to me, there could be a holster design which was generic to the three blasters, but could be adjusted for length and colour of leather/choice of material in each case.
This could be a dual carry system, with a belt loop and a harness for shoulder wear.
It would be really handy if someone could post the dimensions of each. A place to start....

Indeed, we need some concrete measurements before anything else |

|
|
OK, Proper. This should get you started. Using the image Andy posted earlier on your initial thread, I have overlaid a guide, along with measurements. Hopefully this makes sense. Being in the States, these are in inches. Unfortunately President Carter never got his wish of converting us to metric in the 70's, and I only had a conventional ruler handy. I assume you can easily convert.
A surprising number of measurements came in at almost exactly 6 inches.
As you can see, I've included a few widths as well. Short of someone over there loaning you their Hartford, I think these should help.
I've yet to assemble the Ross "Enforcer", and don't yet own a Goldberg.
Thanks - R13 _________________ Gosh, you've really got some nice toys here . . . |

I never seen the Hartford Snubby but my Snub Nose (Goldberg Arms) and Rick Ross' are definitly different enough in size so that a "one model fits all" holster is not likely to fit, or at least not fit well. My snub Nose is designing around a .38 cal frame and Rick's is based on a .44 cal frame (same as the hero, just shorter. There are other differences as well, especially in the shape and size of the ammo clip and trigger guard.
The dimensions given for the Hartford above make it larger in most dimensions, except overall length.
I can provide dimensions for my snub nose. Give me a few minutes. _________________ Dave

R13,
That's great!
Really helpful, thank you.
This is a good place to start. When I get the Ross Snubby kit in hand, I'll be able to measure and compare.
'Merican measurements are fine. We still use both
One last one, can you measure the 'girth' of the Hartford? All the way around the whole of the middle of the pistol, at the point between the two triggers.
Dave G,
I thought it might be a bridge too far to have one master pattern
But I think one master might work for two of the three models.
Cheers,

...WOW...thanks to all who supplied the data so far...I have a Hartford and Rick's Zhora snubbie...I'm not sure how relevant this is but the weight difference seems pretty large...sadly I don't have a scale to measure the difference but it feels substantial..I would think that Dave's all metal Snub would be dramatic as well...again not sure of the relevance. _________________ ...the future is not all it's cracked up to be... |

Thanks for that.
The weight difference isn't really an issue. I make holsters for replicas and prop guns exactly the same way I make them for real world guns, so they'll be fine with the weight.
I put the nearly completed, metal Frankenblaster in one of my new Deckard holsters, turned it upside down and held it by the 'toe'. Didn't fall out.
I'm not suggesting anyone else try this

Great effort guys, keep it coming and I don't think that Karl had the idea of one size fits all kinda holster. Each will have to be customized accordingly. And that makes it more special in the end |

Karl -
Here's the measurement. Just a tad over 10.25" really. This takes in the lever on the opposite side, not shown in Andy's pic.

I have a couple Safariland 550 snub holsters for different sized guns. Not sure if they could help in the project if only for design ideas.

Andy,
Thanks very much for the offer.
I have a design plan. Some ideas I think will work great, thanks anyway though.
I appreciate the support and input.
Dave,
That's exactly the right spot. This is entirely my fault, but I need the measurement in between the triggers, but not including the triggerguard.
I'm sorry, should have made it clearer. I apologize.
