The only plastic parts are the bulldog frame/barrel, the amber grips, and the steyr magazine / housing that are plastic on the original. Color issues aside (and my grips aren't quite as light as DaveG's), it's a fantastic kit. It actually has a couple of pieces that are improved over the WorldCon/Pro. So that addresses fit.

The electronics on the kit are pre-assembled to the pro specs (no lit sight rod LEDs), though the improved sight rod on the kit is hollow.

Dear all: I spoke with Tomenosuke team about the color. When we introduced PRO completed version, many people said the color of the grips are too dark. Then we did some research to make the grips as original color. The Team found out the color should be lighter for kit. But if you assemble it into the frame, the grip color looks very close to the original. Actually Worcon version PRO is same grip color.

I hadn't been paying too much attention to the discussion over the color of the grips provided with the kit until I had them side by side with the pre-assembled Pro I bought a couple of years back. Wow! did they ever miss the mark with the color for the kit! On the left is a grip from my Pro, on the right, from the kit.

Given all the extra effort Tomenosuke put into revising some of the details on this otherwise excellent kit, I'm surprised this got by them.

to people who have received this.. does it stand up to the $1300 fully built ones that you get from rich coyle / tomenosuke ?
or are we talking mostly plastic not quite as good but almost?

im split in 2 wether to get one i already have one of rich's metal versions
but i was wanting one to add electronics to and sound fx etc

Its actually an improvement from the built up models as they have modified parts for better accuracy. It all depends on the finish too. If done well this kit can be the best version out there. The castings are so clean and detailed, you wont get better than this so would grab one before they are sold out Wink

As for grip colour...

Here's the kit grip (on the left) from Dave's picture, compared with a crop of the original prop with the grips removed for cleaning before the auction.

Even allowing for the green cutting mat underneath, I still can't see how the kit grip is anywhere close to the colour of the original grips.

I can see yellow, but no where near enough red/brown in the mix to be considered 'amber'.

Just my opinion.

I suggest you go to:

http://www.propsummit.com/viewtopic.php?t=793

And look at all the pictures of the blaster removed from display case.

And some one needs to take a picture of these grips on a black background.

Black because the grip frame was painted black and only then can you see how they will look on a black frame.

Rich,

I have looked at all the available reference, rest assured.

I still can see no way the yellow is 'amber'.

As I say, my opinion, but I think they are too yellow and too light to be a close match to the originals.

I've looked at the reference pix of the World Con blaster and there's no way the kit grips are anywhere close. Even against black they will still look yellow, not amber. Amber is a mixture of yellow red and maybe a touch or brown and these just look plain yellow. Maybe the grips on the assembled Pro were too dark and Red but these are a massive swing in the other direction.

Again, tomenosuke has done a "Man's Job" with this kit but should be, politely, encouraged to upgrade the grips with a more accurate color. Painting them on the back, as suggested by them, is not really an acceptable option.

Are the kit grips the same color as the tomenosuke worldcon build? There is an image of some tomen prototype grips next to the heros (disassembled) and they both look the same. They also look pretty yellow in the pic which looks to be in more natural lighting than the worldcon pics.

Dave posted a picture of both Tomenosuke grips above.

Here is a pic of the actual Hero with the grips removed from Rich (a picture of the actual hero as worked on before the auction for restoration, not Rich's gun). They were closer the first time.

Being on top of the green cutting matt they certainly look more brown, but you can tell by the refracted light inside that the color is much brighter, and still very rich. The brown grips from the pro version also look wrong, and too dark, but they went too far the other way.

I really feel they dropped the ball changing the color on these. They may have been too brown or cola colored the first time, but they need to be more orange. Even with the dark grips behind they should be richer in color, not piss colored.

I received mine this morning.

And I just checked to see if mine will fit and it is a no go.

My grips are a little wider and a hair shorter and the holes do not line up.

Close but no winner.

Here is a comparison of one of my grips and theirs on black:

And on white:

Thanks for posting that, Rich.

As I thought, not a hint of orange, red or brown.

As Andy pointed out; Piss coloured.....

Also on the problem with the cocking lever it is here:

This corner is too sharp if you can file or dremal it off a little until the lever can get by it.

I reckon the grips look good on the black background though with the gold coloured refractions. Not accurate but still cool. Cool

Your welcome and it IS a little better on the black background...

Perhaps a light dusting on the backside with Tamiya X-27 clear red will help.

Hopefully they will replace ours IF they can get the color better.

Still a darn nice kit...

Wish I had their manufacturing shop...

I found the catch on the lever to be on the inside of the Steyr receiver. The slot for it is not smoothly transitioned into the exit. May have been done on purpose, but I found just playing with it a little bit it was able to get out and soften up the edge with repeated sliding (twss) Wink. I was able to get it to miss the edge you are talking about Rich, and not have it even interfere a little bit.

Mine is so tight that I hate to ram it thought when I can take a little off and fix it.

Granted it will take a steady hand and a small bit.
