tomenosuke bluing/mods

hi all

i have started bluing my tomeno using g96, i gave it one coat as a look see and the tone came out as a mix of between dark brown and blackish not good are their any tips or tricks to using this stuff right.

also i am sure you have noticed that you cant put full length .44 rounds in the cylinder, got that sorted but might not be everyone's cup of tea. will post if interested.

Polishing the parts will help the cold bluieng adhere more evenly and also give it a more blue/black look.

i gave it a good polish before hand, I'm new to this bluing trying not to go too dark but i think I'll have to go that little bit more with it.

have a look see sorry for the drawing quality but it gives a good idea. i used a dremel with a very fine saw not much of a gap worked a treat.

the first is reference to the difference in size of the rounds, and the work on the cylinder.

you can see the white plastic card added to replace the metal disc you won't see this when fitted to the blaster and the cut lines are very thin you can barely see them.

for me the satisfaction is that it looks right.

now for the barrel plug.

has anyone noticed their is a ball bearing in the barrel plug if you look into the 6mm screw hole you can see it and if you push it it will go back into the plug.

i thought this was for locking the plug into the barrel but it's not would love to know how it's fitted any ideas ??

Hey Colin, do you have pics of your bluing to share?

For me that's the biggest unknown for me, so I'm interested to see how the g96 turned out.

I'm not aiming for a match to the prop, I'm going for a base "gunmetal" look.

The gun metal look on the tomenosuke was apparently achieved using caseys aluminium black. I'm not sure what this stuff does compared to the usual blue so waiting to see if anyone else uses it.

I used it on mine.



Scrub it down first so that you make sure to clean off any polishing residue, use a sponge for the big parts (and dip the small parts in a container). Don't worry about getting it the final color in the first pass, just try to keep it smooth instead of streaky. The first couple of passes will rub off. It took me four or five cycles to get it how I wanted it, and at that point it wasn't rubbing off immediately, either. I did my edge weathering at this point.

And now the important part: future floor wax. Once it's the color you want, it's going to be differing amounts of shiny. Get just enough future on the paper towel so that you can rub it onto the part like lotion. It will both smooth out the finish, give it a nice luster, and help protect to boot.

It's possible, but not something I've ever tried on a tomenosuke blaster. For my attempts at a lighter shade I've always used perma blue.

yeah I'm thinking of perma blue, though worried it might brown or blue the color too much. I figured they used the aluminium black to give it a more neutral gun metal finish.Do you think 1-2 coats of the black will get it close to this shade?

Outside my skills. When I say multiple coats, it's only to even it out and make it a little more resilient. A clean part gets jet black almost immediately.

Ahh I see what you mean All pictures show jet black parts so maybe there is a knack to getting that finish. maybe wirewool rubbing it down?

Okay, so this just shows how much of an unknown this is for me, but if the receiver is zinc coated, does Perma Blue work the same way?
