I just can't shake the feeling we are being asked to do someone else's homework for them. Shocked

Could you not at least provide me details of a forum that will answer my questionnaire as opposed to asking me to go away?

I think for each one of those questions you need to ask an expert for. If you are just looking to get opinions on them you need to go to another social network, like facebook, or twitter to get responses to them. This is a place to discuss Blade Runner and the props in the film. If you set up an online questionnaire with facebook, or something like survey monkey, that would be fine to post the link here.

I think you need to think more about how you set up and conduct your research. It is kind of like walking into a bar that you have never been in before, and just start asking questions to the whole bar. You might get one willing participant, or two, but more likely you will just get a lot of annoyed people instead. Get yourself better organized and make it easy for people to participate. Try a multiple choice poll, and not open questions, except maybe a place for people to put in notes. Your questions are not that much different than coming in and asking "What is the meaning of life?".

Your research technique just seems lazy to me, and not very well thought out. Not to mention, you aren't a regular member here. We are a close knit group, that is weary of strangers until they have spent the time and made friends first. You seem to not understand human social behavior very well, and if you want to get accurate and helpful information, you have to put that into consideration. I started my life in this community before I became a mod by asking for help with my research into the the variations of the Blade Runner guns. I realized early on that an open question about them would get me nothing, so I posted my initial research and let everyone either add, or subtract from it. I am still working on it today, but by putting myself out there and showing them my work, I get the people to take me seriously, and know I was willing to do most of the work alone.

Good luck,
Andy

What you should do, or should have done if it is too late now. Would have been to share your thesis, and then ask directly if anyone would be willing to participate in the research and answer some questions, then do the questionnaire over the phone to make the longer questions easier to discuss. Or like I said before, set up another site for a questionnaire such as survey monkey, or a twitter account, and then direct people there. Most importantly you need to set up the reasons behind the research, or at least make a better introduction of yourself. In real life if some stranger came up to me and just started asking random questions, I would tell them to "F%# Off" and walk away...maybe a little nicer than that though. 90% of any research project is learning how to do the research, and you haven't done your first part of your homework yet. Good luck, and come back when you have figured it out.

An example of the issue

1. What are bioweapons?

No idea? (well, I know a little but I ain't telling)

2. What is bioengineering?

same as before

3. Have you been involved in a clinical drug trial?

No

4. If you have been in a clinical drug trial what was the experience like?

I said "NO"

5. How do viruses work on our body?

Look it up!

6. What is a mutagenic virus?

Can you read?

7. What is dystopia?

Dysfunctional Utopia, what we have here. Very Happy

8. How do anthropomorphic robots work?

Duh? Like us I would hope

9. What are the dangers of robots in the future?

They will be smarter than you.

10. Can a drug be developed to cure all mental illnesses?

Yes, but that would be no fun.

11. Could a virus be created to create a zombie race?

Maybe a fungus.

12. If yes then how could virus be created?

Ask a scientist.

Wink Hope this helps, because it will be probably what you get a lot of out there Wink

notice how much easier it is to digest without all the extra spacing too? Very Happy

Thanks Andy...I also had reservations with question 3 & 4 : none of your business Confused As you said, some of the questions are of the realm of deep scientific knowledge (to which I cannot answer).

9. What are the dangers of robots in the future.

Well, the U.S. Army is developing automatic armed drones (not controlled by a human operator) that will decide (according to certain "signs & behaviours") when to engage and fire their weapons...that's a near future danger Confused

Things were just not right with his questions and how he was asking them, that just scared anyone from being willing to answer them. If we hadn't scared him away, maybe we could have at least helped him with his project by learning how to do it better, but I have a feeling the problems went deeper than his questionnaire.

Thanks for all the feedback, this survey was desined on survey monkey and is much simpler with more multiple choice questions as I appreciate my previous questionnaire was too open format.

Thanks again.

Hey Regan -
This one still has the same issues as before - and honestly you are not going to get much more of a response than what Andy posted above.

Here is the thing - your questions are phrased as though we *know* these things and without reference to anything in particular.

Now - what you may be meaning is to instead ask - what do these things mean to you. In which case you get answers based on each individual that you then compile and compare and see if there are base trends that have permeated our collective unconscious based on movies/culture.

But at this point no one knows WTH you are actually asking and what you are trying to get out of it.

Not trying to be harsh - just offering some friendly advice.

Cheers

I would have to second this, and point out the idea of asking questions that are factual, not objective and can be looked up, is still too much like asking someone to do your research for you. Definitely a step in the right direction though.
