Another more refined method would be to use Tamiya Clear paints either orange, or combo of red and yellow through an airbrush. Only painting the back side not the entire grip.
I have done this on other grips very simple provided you have an airbrush obviously.
I experimented with the red sharpie technique but could not get it to adhere to the back of the grips. |

I thought about using the clear Tamiya paints on my grip, but it had too many issues to make it worth doing...
1st, painting just the back side of the grip would not change the color looking at the grip either from front to back or back to front. Basically how most of us would look at the gun, so we might have to paint the whole grip for the effect, and then have to be touching the paint.
2nd, even if painting the inside of the grip worked, the paint would be wearing on the gun itself in the inside of the grip.
I honestly wished if they were expecting us to paint the grips that they just did them clear, and gave us the full range of options in painting them any color we wished, or to have just left them clear, as many of us longed for as an option. I appreciated the inclusion of the police black grips as it were as well. It seems like a missed opportunity.
The light color of the pro kit just simply never came close to the richness I see in any of the photos of the actual hero prop. I am not against modifying them, but in the end it seemed like a cop out, especially since the previous versions of the gun had such nice richly colored grips. The new grips look great though. I just wish the new version came along at a time I wasn't so highly invested into other projects. Sadly it may be time for me to let go of my love for these replicas, and move on.

You MIGHT ask them for a set of the new grips.

Neither of these are an issue. The way the grips and paint refracts light makes the entire grip seem more orange/amber - and there is no wear as the grips are held in place firmly. Provided of course that the grips are allowed to dry properly after airbrushing. |

Rit color dye for clothes also dyes plastic. Dip the grips in some mandarina orange and it's done. Though this is only an external layer. I'd still rather get it cast in the right colored resin. _________________ "F*ck it, it's just a movie. Let him worry about it" Harrison Ford |

I had the same issue with the original issue OFW grips. TOOOO orange looking.
I used some testers translucent red, one coat with a wide frat brush, on the inside of each grip.
BINGO!! problem solved.
If you don't like it scrub it off with a plastic dish scrubby sponge. _________________ "No choice pal,..."

Judging from the number of complaints about grip color, I'd say offering clear grips is the answer. Then everyone would be happy with the color of their grips regardless of whether their choice was "right" or "wrong." |

I think the best and coolest thing to do is to offer grips in a range of colors as an upgrade extra. I could even see super deluxe versions in Ivory, pearlescent, tortoise shell, and even more
Just putting it out there.

To successfully transform your grip with a red Sharpie, you'll have to use acetone on the back of the grips
As soon as you have that dull finish, you can apply your colour. |

Would sandpaper do the trick cause acetone and plastic is a bad combo. Very melty things can happen if done improperly. |

True that, acetone should be applied with a Q-tip and you'll have that dull finish on the back of the grip...that or sandpaper: 320 will do |

I did the red sharpie trick. Use a fat one though. Covers more area and evenly. Worked great!
