A bit off topic, but here's some pictures of the flamethrower in Alien: Isolation (sorry about the scrolling). Note the Rexim-Favor-esque grip.

Time for another update.
The video and pictures from the up coming Propstore auction have been quite useful. So thanks again to Toa Quarax for posting the links.
I was watching the Alien Makers documentary on Denis Lowe's site the other day. Martin Bower is talking about how he used kit parts from 30 odd different kits to detail the Narcissus. No doubt parts from those kits were used on the flamethrower! There are of course two we already know about.
So my approach is to try and recreate the feel of those areas. Rather than buying thirty kits I've bought one and used a few bits and pieces I already have.
So here's the detail on the front panel.

I did a mould of these and some of the details for the underside.

Here they are glued in position.
So I only have a couple more of these detail parts to make now! One which lies behind the top vent and the other on the white pony tank.

Ripley’s (Sigourney Weaver) Flamethrower
ALIEN (1979)
A prop flamethrower used by Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) in Ridley Scott’s sci-fi thriller Alien. This style of “incinerator unit” was used by Ripley as well as the Nostromo’s captain, Dallas (Tom Skerritt), as the dwindling crew tried to escape their ship and kill the alien life-form on board. It screen matches the flamethrower used by Ripley as she fled the ship.
All of the flamethrowers made for the production featured slight differences in the arrangement of their working parts, making the weapons highly individual. This version was a practical unit made for close-up scenes and is made primarily of wood, aluminium and steel with some resin components. Finished in grey and distressed to look hard-worn, the controls on the grips and the red and white gas tanks are non-practical pieces. A black synthetic webbing sling is mounted on the top of the weapon from metal sling loops.
To simulate functionality the unit used a steadily burning pilot flame, with gas provided from a rearmounted supply piped to a nozzle at the barrel and ignited using a spark plug. A simple on-off flow valve regulated the gas during use. The weapon has been carefully deactivated since filming for safety reasons.
Some minor wear is present, and the flamethrower has had some minor sympathetic restoration over the past 35 years. Interestingly, this flamethrower can be matched to original period reference photographs taken by Ridley Scott’s driver, Pat Lowry when he was transporting the unit from one set to another. The weapon is in very good condition and is supplied with a signed, framed photograph of Weaver and a custom-made display base. Dimensions: 20 cm x 86 cm x 55 cm (8” x 34” x 21½”)

The prop store just posted a video on their FB page that briefly highlight some of the items for sale in their upcoming auction. The flamethrower is one of them. Looks like he is speaking at a show. It's only a few seconds but the host mentioned it was heavy.

Thanks Master Blaster. I did see that Stephen Lane was going to be on that show yesterday. It's a show that's on on an afternoon here in the UK. I'll take a better look on catch up TV later. If nothing else you get to see the underside.

I managed to go see the flamethrower at the Propstore exhibition in London yesterday.
Forgive the selfie. It had to be done!
The way it was displayed I could only see one side. It was good to see it in person but viewing it through glass was a bit like looking at a photograph. It looked small. I was able to get a better view of the underside, top detail, tank detail as well as the fuel line which connects the propane bottle to the emitter. So worth the trip.
I took a few pictures. Here's some overall shots.
Underside is quite plain, broken and some bits missing!

Awesome, awesome, awesome awesome! Were you able to ask the prop guys as to their knowledge of the material comprised in the prop? Mi was wondering if they knew?

I think they pretty much cover what its made of in their auction description Master Blaster.
I think there were about four made. Two practical and two dummy. All slightly different.
I just asked how long they had had it in the collection. But they weren't sure.
Its not very pretty to look at close up.
There is a good story in the Original Art Edition of Alien The Illustrated Story which Skinjob66 told me about where Walter Simonson recalls talking to the effects guys about the practical flamethrowers. They were so worried the flamethrowers may get stolen that they removed the firing mechanisms from them every night.
