Some information for anyone considering making a firing Blaster:

These are recreation of what must have been used with the real firing prop.

Here is a photo of the spare custom barrel, the original remover barrel and the unused Steyr bolt and spare ammo housing.

Charter does not make a 4.5 inch barrel rather they have done a 4 inch barrel which is A) ½ inch too short (barrels are measured from the beginning of the barrel (right at the cylinder) though the frame and to the front end of the barrel. Also the are not plane round but have a front sight and rib and some have a shroud for the injector rod.

The charter 4 inch barrel is only 3.5 inches from the front of the frame to the end so by laymen terms, where we need a full 4 inch from the frame to the end of the barrel.

These were made by buying real rifled 44 barrel stock, these then have to be cut to correct sizes both in length and diameter and then machines to fit into the Bulldog Frame.

There are two operations needed to fit these barrels, the first one is to screw it in and check the cylinder to barrel clearance, these barrels were made about 1/15 too long to allow custom fitting them to each pistol frame. I test fir and then machine a couple of thousands off a few times until I just clear the cylinder and pulling the trigger does not bind against the cylinder. This insures the very lease blow by.

Second as each cast part can be a little different in size, I do not drill the three mounting holes for the Steyr receiver or the ammo housing. This has to be done once all the parts are ready to be fitted.

These barrels have already been used within a couple of models and work fine.

Here are a few other things you will need to do to insure of a safe firing prop.

I custom make a flat headed slotted screw for this:

Here is a photo of the real prop showing that the prop builder did the same thing:

OK At this time I have only two barrels for sale. I cannot say when and IF I will have any more made.

One is undrilled as it should be so that it can be fitted correctly to your model.

The other is one is drilled BUT MAY NOT FIT correctly to your model. The problem is when it is tighten onto the Bulldog it may turn the holes a little off alinement, this can be no problem IF you never plan of firing the gun, the barrel can then be left slightly loose when aliening it with the receiver.

As always these are made to fit my models, and a Bulldog pistol frame. They may or may not fit other models.

Both I will sell for $175.00 plus shipping.

Also I am now offering the cylinder lock down screw with four washers to keep it from jamming the cylinder.

This special machined and threaded screw cost $35.00 each plus shipping.

Order it with a barrel and you get the pair for $200.00 plus shipping.

I am racprops@cox.net to order.

Rich

No, it was an honest "Thank you". I know I fought with a bunch of people on it it for a long time, but it might have been Doc3D that also originally came up with or inspired the idea too. So I am not claiming credit, just cool to see the concept proven to work.

He may have talked about it but you campaigned for it and made me try it out, first on a junk cast dummy where I drilled straight thought the head of the screw and came out very near the side cover upper screw which I considered proof of concept.

Then a couple of tests with a couple of cast model parts and I was sold.

It makes a working firing model safer.

A few people making working firing models and I thank you.

Only one undrilled barrel LEFT!!

By undrilled I mean the mounting holes for the Steyr Receiver and the ammo housing, these are real 44 rifled gun barrels.

And there is only one drilled barrel offered, (please reread what I said about that one)and that will be that for now.
