It looks like we're going to get an awesome book devoted to 2001 next year... I say "awesome" because it's going to be written by no other than Sir Christopher Frayling !!! (he wrote Something to do with Death, the definitive book on Sergio Leone)

(and my little finger tells me we're going to have great illustrations made especially for the book...)

Release date : March 2014

Yep, and not to highjack or anything, but I've finished my research on the Space Station (thanks also to DaveG and his 3D renderings on the RPF) and next week is blueprint week. Dimensions of the station will be 6 feet in circumference (original was prob 7 feet).

While researching for that project I came upon a 3-D rendering group and one of the guy even asked Doug Trumbull if he had any close-ups of the model and the answer was that even he, didn't...oh well, I'll do the best I can with the info I have at the present.

Stay tuned

That would make the diameter almost two feet, making it a hefty model for sure!

It looks like 2014 is going to be a phenomenal year for 2001 fans !

The ultimate trip: Science fiction’s greatest masterpiece explored in depth ~ Due in July, 2014

In March 1964, Stanley Kubrick decided that his next project would be to make “the proverbial good science-fiction movie.” Fifty years after the film’s conception, TASCHEN looks back at the process of making the most important science-fiction film of all time. Though 2001 has arguably spawned more critical texts and scholarly analyses than any other film, this publication marks the first time that a truly exhaustive book has been devoted to it.

TASCHEN readers enjoyed a sampling of previously unseen 2001 material in The Stanley Kubrick Archives; this four-volume set revisits the subject, exploring in great depth every aspect of the film and its making: the groundbreaking technical effects, the extraordinary set designs, and the fascinating collaboration between Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke. Made in exclusive collaboration with the Kubrick estate and Warner Brothers, this copiously illustrated work features hundreds of unique 2001-related documents, concept artworks, and superb behind-the-scenes photographs from the Kubrick Archives—most of which have never been published before—as well as exclusive material from co-screenwriter Arthur C. Clarke’s archives.

The Making of Stanley Kubrick’s ’2001: A Space Odyssey’ is a landmark book for film fans and a celebration of technical special-effects innovation before the digital age, conceived by the designers of TASCHEN’s instant collectible “Stanley Kubrick’s Napoleon: The Greatest Movie Never Made.”

Making of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001. A Space Odyssey’s four volumes are contained in a monolith-shaped case, designed by M/M Paris:

Volume 1: Film stills
Volume 2: Behind the scenes (including new interviews with lead actors, senior production designers, and key special-effects experts).
Volume 3: Facsimile of original screenplay
Volume 4: Facsimile of original 1965 production notes

Publication date: July 1, 2014
1384 pages
$750.00
Limited to a total of 1,000 copies:
Art Edition No 1-500 (Art Edition A and B)
Collector’s Edition No. 501-1,000

GREAT NEWS! Very Happy

I wonder about the availability in The States(?) I have a few smaller TASCHEN publications (works by Giger and others), mostly purchased online or through used-book stores here and there.

Nothing is listed yet on the TASCHEN site under "2001" or in the "Coming Soon" category that I could find. And nothing on sites like Amazon, of course.

???

Wow, a real investment piece. Something like that would only get more valuable as time went on.

Don't worry mates, this is the announcement for the LIMITED EDITION.
If Taschen do like they did on the "Kubrick's Napoleon" boxset, they'll release a cheaper edition of this book later...

I'm sure many here may know of this, but I was just informed that "2001" will be re-release soon as part of British Film Institute's sci-fi season.

After all these years, I can't wait to see it again on the big screen. For those who might not be aware, here's the new trailer posted today on the Hollywood Reporter. Enjoy! -
