|

Hey everyone. Seems a little quiet around here lately, so why not announce a new project I'll be starting and slowly working on.
You may remember a couple "Blasters" I made a while back for a short film my friends were working on that had a Blade Runner feel to them. Well as soon as I get them back I'll be starting on converting one of them to a closer version of the hand cannon we all know and love.
Specifically my goals for this project is to have a Blank firing gun with as many Blade Runner bits attached to it. It wont be 100% accurate but it will in the end fire 9mm blank ammunition and hopefully stay in one piece (and I keep all my digits ) after the rounds go off.
I have sourced the following:http://www.airsplat.com/Images/AR-UTG-M324-ACU-4.jpg
As you can see that will serve as the Steyr receiver and I'll be using this as the Bulldog base:
I'm still not decided on where to source the Steyr ammo housing I may see if Rich will send me one along with the side covers and sight rod. Or I might do something different. We'll see.
Anyways. I look forward to drawing upon the vast amount of knowledge here to help me with this project, and I'll do my best to post progress pics and maybe a video of it firing when it's all said and done. _________________ full tilt boogie baby

Small update. I began dissembling the airsoft rifle here are a couple pics:
http://propsummit.com/upload/118/sdc10352.jpg

I can see now that I've got quite a bit of work ahead of me between milling the bottom of the receiver out so it fits over the blank pistol to re-engineering the bolt mechanism so it will still function to a degree.
This should be quite a challenge, but I enjoy this sort of thing. _________________ full tilt boogie baby

I've thought about doing this. I don't have access to the equipment though.
I have a feeling your build is going to be pretty epic.

Thank you for the kind words Noeland. I really hope I don't let any of you down.
In other news I just won this off've gunbroker:
Again not going for 100% accuracy but it was cheaper including shipping than have Rich send me one of his. _________________ full tilt boogie baby

Well here's an interesting development. I've got the receiver pretty much cut down to where it needs to be. Still working on the slide however. Anyways, while working with this thing I began to notice that it feels a bit bigger than the blasters I have in my collection just how big I didn't realize until I put it next to my Coyle SE. Allow me to show you:
http://propsummit.com/upload/118/sdc10364.jpg
Yikes So while the Coyle receiver which is based of a real Steyr is approx. 7.5" end to end the airsoft is over 10".
Me thinks I maybe working on more of a PKD Magnum that fires blanks. The real issue here is the revolver I planned on using only has a 4.5" barrel on it. I'm sure I'll figure something out I guess I just wanted to give you guys an update. _________________ full tilt boogie baby

You're not wrong!
Just think of it as the Dirty Harry version of the blaster. _________________ full tilt boogie baby

I always thought about a "long version" of the gun; it'll be interesting to see...not only design-wise but also visually-wise |

Just a quick update I just got this from Steyr:
http://propsummit.com/upload/118/sdc10378.jpg
And here it it with the upper bolt section of the airsoft gun.
http://propsummit.com/upload/118/sdc10379.jpg
Oddly enough, Steyr calls this a "Trigger Guard" that's all. While it includes this I found it a little weird that when searching for this part under "Ammo Housing" nothing came up. It was only by luck that I managed to find it. glad I did. _________________ full tilt boogie baby

That airsoft receiver is tempting for a BR blaster build. I appreciate the comparison photo.
Lots of cutting metal in your future.
Very interested in the outcome! _________________ I don't have enough blasters! |

Yes it's times like this that I wish I had a mill.
I still have not received the blank gun from my friend, which is unbelievably annoying. I finally sent him an ultimatum: send me my props or send me a check. They should be in mail next week.
Anyways, that accounts for the lack of updates I've got all the parts I can get right now. I suspect I'll be getting this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Blade-Runner-Blaster-M2019-Prop-Replica-CNC-Metal-Frame-Set-/321196162295?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ac8c87cf7 and obviously some amber grips. But before I pull the trigger on that (so to speak) I want to get the majority of it assembled and see where I am.
I'll update this thread when I have something, until then I appreciate your patience. _________________ full tilt boogie baby

If you need another source for one of those blank revolvers, I have a few to get the front firing versions. Just let me know.
You should be aware, but you probably are, the frame of those blank guns is not the same as the charter arms, so the off world set will not fit it without some work. _________________ I don't have enough blasters! |

I really appreciate the offer Noeland. I may take you up on it.
I was fully expecting having to do some work on either one or both grip frames to get them to fit together well. We'll just have to wait and see for now. _________________ full tilt boogie baby

Hard to believe it's been almost a year since I put this project on the back burner.
So you're all long over due for an update. Unfortunately I've been extremely busy with work. I'm currently working in the props department for an new NBC TV show filming here in Atlanta. My boss has been in the business for a long time and it's an amazing opportunity to work with some really talented people on a fun show. But we've been working 13+ hour days for a last few weeks which leaves me only weekends to do anything for myself.
That said, I recently dug out the pieces I'd gathered up and ordered a longer .380/9mm barrel which I'll be using instead of the one on the revolver which will be much too short to match up to the airsoft receiver. Once it arrives I'll take the blank revolver and barrel to a gunsmith here in town and have them mated up along with a plug for the barrel.
I think I'll be buying the Trigger Guard, Grip Frame, and Butt Plate from ebay. Side covers, and grips will still come from Rich.
Anyways I just want you guys to know I haven't forgotten about this I just got sidetracked...for about 8 months _________________ full tilt boogie baby

Blade Runner's back burner (try to say that 10 times fast ).
No need to apologize; you have a gig and that's what counts!
Eager to see the next update! |
