Of course, everyone knows about the "retrofitted" skyline of Downtown Los Angeles in Blade Runner. However, the concerns about earthquake safety made the concept non-feasible in real life. Or is it feasible?

The Pantages Theatre was originally designed in the late 1920s to be a 12-story structure, with offices soaring 11 stories above the ground floor theatre complex. However, a little thing called the Great Depression prevented the building from rising to its intended height, and the building was left at two stories tall.

Now the old plans for the building have been dusted off, and the design has been upgraded to meet post-1994 earthquake standards. The Environmental Impact Report process is expected to take two years, then if all goes well the retrofitting process will take another two years before completion.

Life imitates BR...again....
