So, here's the problem with this kind of project.
Everyone will have their own idea of what the project should be. Everyone will have a preference for certain details.
Bottom line is, that the finished box will never be everything to everyone. Impossible.
I've been here with many projects on many boards. The result will always be a compromise.
The original box I showed was a commission for another client, nothing to do with this run. The old corners are not on the table for this run. If you'd like them on your box, then you can always do that yourself.
I wasn't going to make them shiny, I was going to silver plate them, so they match the very shiny bright chrome of the Steyr badge better. The design cues all add up and the finished box looks designed, and not contrapted.
The new corners are very nice, I'm sure you'll like them.... |

Eethan,
The link in your previous post shows a box which actually has the new corners on it. Thinner wall thickness, cast brass, four mount holes.
The very same corners.
If everyone wants. I can chemically patinate the brass to age it. It won't go black, but dark brown. The finish is very attractive, but not very robust. It will wear off with use on the edges. I like this, but it might not suit everyone.
But, and let me be clear on this, I'm not making ten different boxes, each tailored to an individual's personal taste.
We agree on the details and I make the boxes the same.
DVDC,
I can make the closure with the two snaps, no problem.
My point with all of the above is that the boxes will all be the same. We just need to agree on the details. |

I'll make a prototype, I have the stuff on the way. Always better for folk to see what they're actually getting
If people don't jump in, I'll assume they're OK with the decisions made.
Friction fit foam for the bottom of the case, check.
It will probably need double sided for the lid liner.
The 'Tag' will be a manufacturer/stock inventory record. A I mentioned, a business card size piece of laser etched 'brushed aluminum' with a barcode, record of name. date, issue, etc. A VIN plate, if you like. Like this:
http://www.machineplatesonline.com/vin-plates-and-hull-plates/
I now need decisions on the following:
1. NATO snaps to close the case (as on the first one) or padlock staple?
2. Silver corners, antique brass (brown), or plain bare brass? |

You answered 'yes' to four of the five options
We can't have both NATO snaps and a padlock staple, or silver and antique corners. Im really not going down the path of ten different boxes, customized to each individual.
So, we're OK with NATO snaps to close, and silver corners? |

I think I would like the nato snaps more, but I have trouble visualizing the padlock staples. I too need example, it's really hard to decide on words.
for the corners, whatever the other decide. I will replace mine with the cast iron ones I think.
looking forward to the prototype |

This is a padlock staple.
http://buylagarto.com/images/locking-staple-four-rivet.jpg
It would be screwed in a horizontal position to the front of the bottom of the box. The 'tongue' strap from the lid has a horizontal slot cut in it. The strap comes down from the lid, the slot goes over the staple. Box closed.
If you want it locked, you just put a padlock through the hoop. |

yeah, I think the snaps are a lot more subtle and sleek looking. I know you don't want options and all, but maybe this would be available as an option or maybe just included in the design thinking so that there is room to add one.
Hey, just a question, would it be possible to add to my interest order a blaster holster, if possible made out of the same leather if you don't have any in stock? I would like to get one to go with the box and blaster and it's a good opportunity to save on shipping cost if possible.
thanks a lot |

NATO Snaps
Silver Corners to match Steyr Medallion.
Thats my vote
I also think the original box size is good and shouldn't be any smaller. |

Cratercritter,
I used a smiley, trying to keep it light....
Thanks for clarifying that. I appreciate it.
I really don't want to go down the 'custom option' route for snap/staples.
It's not really possible to set up the case for snap closure, then change it later. The top strap would have the snaps mounted on it, no slot for the staple. The lower strap would have the sockets for the snaps screwed through and into the wood.
It's not really practical.
So, I'm hearing silver plated corners and NATO black/brass snaps, correct? |

You may already have this in mind but Maybe for the corner of the inside a plaque would be cool - or space for a plaque.
Or maybe a badge. I just don't think that area should be for bullets as this is an In Universe presentation box. |

As a suggestion as to what to include on the tag - I always like the "Pflager Katsumoto D" model info included as a nod to Phillip K Dick. |

There will be space for a plaque, or bullets if you like, in the area under the barrel/clip part.
I wasn't going to put a plaque inside, but to just have the 'VIN plate' on the outside.
I wasn't going with the PKD name, but I'll go with popular opinion. If you guys want it....
Replicant13 is working on a graphic as we speak. When he's happy, we'll put it up and see what folks think. |

snaps and silver corners are good for me so far. the plaque should be nice as well, looking foward to see the graphic.
I would prefer no plaque inside, as I will personally go for a bullet box that I'll add myself. |
