NATO snaps and silver corners, check.

No plaque inside, but space to customize, check.

I don't agree, since '5223' is famously issued to Rick Deckard, but I only work here Smile

Snaps and silver corners, check.
Box size similar, check.

No name on the issue VIN plate?
Detective Special?
PK- Series D?

Anyone else have an opinion on these?

My opinion: for me, this is Deckard’s blaster, and not a fantasy prop that is supposed to be “mine”.

I'm down with snaps if it makes things easier. Snaps & silver corners sounds good to me. Data plate sounds cool too, although I might request it unattached so that I can display it with a Sid or Coyle down the road... can't wait to see where you're headed with these.

The box has 5223 on it plus VIN tag.
Having Deckard's name is too personalized.
For example Deckard's car VIN wouldn't have his name on it.
But....I don't want to be too pedantic, and Deckard's
name on the TAG is still acceptable. Cool

Oh, then I think we actually agree then! Apologies. As long as the VIN and 5223 are there I’m quite satisfied.

I think cratercritter has a point, it looks like a factory issued plaque and it seems weird to have a name on it.

Not factory issued, Department issued. In which case it could possibly have his name on it. Since he's responsible for the weapon.

Regardless, I'll go with what you guys want.

So,

Snaps, check.
Siver corners, check.
VIN plate, serial number but no name, check.

Anything else?

Would it be a cool idea to discreetly number each box? Could be in an out of the way spot, but might be a neat way to memorialize the limited run.

I'll go with whatever Karl thinks works best. The artist should be allowed to run with their imagination.

Sorry, I'm super exited about this run, so I went over the whole thread again, something that hasn't been brought up is the foam, you said flat foam instead of the acoustic eggbox, and agree to that! flat foam with a nice cut-out is really super clean looking. (It's what I use for guitars too )

also, I'll say Amen to what DVDC said, and I'll try to let your artist imagination run free and will try to stop giving too much of my opinion

I invited discussion, it's the only way to give everyone what they want.
But there has to be balance.
As I said, it won't be all things to all people.
I have to make the project do-able without me making ten different boxes.

I was thinking about the foam. I don't like eggbox acoustic foam, it looks untidy when it's cut.

I like the flat foam better, but was wondering about maybe facing it with satin or matt black leatherette. This would be before it's die-cut, so the facing leatherette and foam are cut in one piec. Tidy.

I'll do some tests and get back to you.

I definitely think Deckerds name should be on it. Why be stealthy? Go all the way.

Deckard's name and the "PKD" designation are my vote.

There are more votes against Deckard's name being on the VIN plate, so we'll go without it. Have to stay with the majority. So VIN plate info:

Property of LAPD
Sector 8 diamond logo
Issue date
'Issued to' badge number
Blaster manaufacturer
Blaster model
Blaster serial number
Barcode for stock inventory

As for the faced foam. I think open cell black or grey urethane foam will be fine.
I really like the idea of the black leatherette facing, as it would make the interior look really neat and clean.

At the moment I'm thinking of the facing just being on the bottom foam, around the blaster, as the lid foam will likely contact the blaster and the leatherette will indent, as well as potentially rubbing on the finish.

If I go with black foam in the lid, you won't really notice it.
