Very very nice, Fred! You've made some great choices to capture the essence of the costume. (And I love the Snark reference too!). Smile

You must have patience to do that kind of work Fred, or have tiny fingers Wink

Looking good so far!

Absolutely not the case JB !
(my wife often tells me I have "bear hands")
All you need is patience (to cut the pockets and patches from the donor clothes), you're absolutely right about this side of things, but also superglue (to stick them to the receiver clothes).

Thanks anyhow for the kind words !

Fred

Thank you Colin, glad to know you like the Snark reference !

(Regarding color, I was looking at some point for something that would remind of what Moebius did on his designs for the film but it was too far from what we saw on screen, so I changed my mind in the middle of the process and tried to replicated more or less Brett's jacket color instead)

OK, a little update on the accessories and pieces of costume that won't need too much work to complete the uniform...

The shirt is simply a spare 1/6 Ripley Nostromo shirt.
Hot Toys made a mistake, the sleeve pockets are supposed to be on the left arm but they placed them on the right arm, this to explain why I had no choice but to stick the Nostromo shoulder patch on the wrong arm, I mean the left arm.
The pens were added exactly like they did on the screen used shirts, simply by perforation of two small holes atop the right chest pocket.

The sneakers are also spares from the 1/6 Ripley ALIEN version. They'll need weathering to be spot on.

The torch is in reality a concept motion tracker by Ron Cobb, it can be seen in the hand of one of his early production concept astronauts. Since it was included as a torch in the Kane and Dallas astronaut action figure sets, I'm going to use it as is on my Nostromo crew member project. (nope, please don't ask, he won't have a weapon, we're not trying to replicate something out of ALIENS here, remember the first film is simply about "space truckers")

The light helmet is a spare from a Hot Toys 1/6 ANH Han Solo action figure. They used these Racall headsets on tons of films back them, notably on Star Wars and ALIEN... I just had to cut a wire and shorten the mic. It'll also need a red marking on the left side and some weathering.

Next time we'll speak about another (very important) subject : 1/6 bodies !

Stay tuned !

Fred

As promised, this post will be entirely devoted to 1/6 bodies.

Since the only ALIEN figure released at 1/6 scale as I type these lines has been Ripley in flightsuit, this figure as become my primary source of spare parts at the start of my project. The sneakers and shirt both come from it.

I realized I had a big problem when I got a generic Hot Toys male body in the mail. (yeah, my intention has always been to make a male crew member)
What problem ?
Size !
I guessed the 1/6 male and female body measurements would differ slightly and I would have to adapt some spare parts, but I wasn't prepared to something so bulky !
I desperately tried to find another thiner male body without luck, that's where I finally decided the best solution would be to use a female body for my male crew member...

So in the end, yeah, my Nostromo crew member is going to be transgender ! (like Lambert after all)

Fred

Fred, Enjoying the progress of your build.

Does the "Ron Cobb Data Stick" come with the Ripley figure? That's something I've always wanted to make full size. I've always liked that sketch in The Book of Alien.

I was thinking about your male body dilemma. Have you tried looking at Ashley Wood 3A figures. The physic may be slightly slimmer than the body you have. One of the Tomorrow Kings line! I think they are 1:6.

Just a thought, an expensive one perhaps!

Thank you Colin !

The data stick was included in the Dallas and Kane in spacesuit sets released 10 years ago... I had bought the Kane version back then. Since my Nostromo crew won't have a weapon in hand, I thought that this data stick / torch would be a good option.

Yes, I considered other options than Hot Toys for the body and ThreeA was one of them (I even thought of Action Man !) but their male body proportions are rather similar (at least the spare ones I saw on eBay). You also have to consider that the hands and feet articulated joints can be a problem because when it comes to spare parts they won't necessarily adapt to the body or hands and feet, even if they all come from the same brand. That's why I finally decided to stay focused on Hot Toys.

As you can see, this little project as proven to be more complicated than expected...

Fred

Dear gents, let me introduce you to Engine Technician Jay Faust, previously affected on the SNARK, now serving aboard the Nostromo.

Looking good Fred.

Has a touch of Ryan Gosling about him!

What’s next? A bit of the Snark interior - care of Rob Cobb?!

Having said that his new ship is Nostromo!

Thank you once again JB for the always appreciated kind words !

Colin, believe it or not but now that I have completed this one I think I'm going to do another, this time Cpt Dallas... Of course I'll need to build a diorama when these two are done... This to say expect more than what was initially announced at the start of this thread !

BTW I also ordered a replacement head for my Kane in EVA suit figure.
(I had already found the RAF WW2 MK2 soft helmet a few weeks ago)
I have to say that installing these two in the rather narrow space of the helmet wasn't a piece of cake, pfew... but it's finally done, very happy with the result, it makes the figure more realistic !
(also had to buy a neck extension in order to be able to see the face through the visor)

More next time !

Fred
