Hello there,
I posted on the rpf about that but I don't get a lot of answers yet and since I'm asking myself a lot of questions, I thought maybe it would help to make a sister thread here too.

I'm currently working on a project replicating very accurately blade runner badges and I want to create a badge for Gaff, Bryant and Holden as well.

here are the questions I'm trying to solve.

regarding the names,
I used :
Rick Deckard B263-54
Harry Bryant B223-35
Edward? Gaff B242-947
Dave Holden B1512-944
I hope those are correct and generally accepted. For Gaff, I felt that this was an official paper and we needed a first name so I used Edward as a fun nod to the beloved actor and I thought it sounded nicelly.

Now, regarding the id numbers, what I wrote next to the names is the last numbers I made up based on the actors birthdates and trying to have something that fits nicelly on the badges and gives a sense of older/younger for the characters based on the number of digits. I kind of like it but I'm looking forward to know what people think.

another thing, do you guys think the circle thingy at the bottom of the front is a barcode of some sort and should be different on all? I discussed that with my girlfriend and we disagree on that. I think the square thingy on the left is an electronic chip that will always be the same and the circle at the bottom is a barcode and she thinks they are both chips and should be always similar. Please tell me what you feel

here are a few pics of printed prototypes:

prototype for Bryant's badge:
My idea is that they got the badges when those guys started young, they were in paper and they carried them with them all the time. they got quite used and at some point, they plastified all the badges to avoid them getting more damaged. For this reason I have replicated faithfully the worldcon badge for Deckard but made cleaner versions for Holden and Gaff and a really beaten version for Bryant.

For the same old/new reason, I made sure to keep the typo on the english text on the back of the badge, but I was thinking that maybe I would correct those typos on Gaff and Holden's badges, like if those were spoted at some point and corrected on later badges.

Regarding the ID photos, I made one for deckard that you can see on the previous picture. For Gaff I made a first one with the hat but then read here that some people would not like it as Gaff was respectful and would certainly remove his hat for an official photo. So I removed the hat and I quite like it too.

(this is a printed sample, not on the final paper and the printer maybe wasn't warm enough yet, but I prefer showing a printed sample than the computer files, the computer photo is a lot cleaner than that result though.)

For Bryant, I made a nice picture but it's during the movie time, I feel I should find a younger photo but I'm unable so far.

For Holden, I made a photo but I'm very unhappy with my result so far so I'm still looking as well. If you guys have any leads for nice pictures of those two, I would appreciate it too.

to summerize as this is a bit long, my questions are:

- character names and ID number.
- circle and square chips on the badge front, is the circle a barcode and should I change it for different characters or not?
- fixing English typos on the younger characters badge?
- hat/no hat for Gaff
- photos for Holden and Bryant
...

really looking forward to your input guys
thanks a lot

While waiting for some reaction and opinions from people,
Here are a smaler resolution part of Deckard and Gaff computer files for the photos, to show a bit more and hopefully push more people to react and give their opinion.
all those pictures and files I'm showing are completelly my own work, I'm sorry for being so annoying with croping and putting watermarks on them, there is a lot of work involved and I would like to avoid being stolen.

Both those digital paintings are based on those next pictures, I'm trying to get something very unique for each character:

I'm looking forward to any reaction and opinion

Love the work you did on those pics. Much better than the ones circulating on the net and various sites. Cleaner Deck and yes: no hat for Gaff.
Fixing the orthograph is always a good idea (unless you're going for screen-used of course).

Not by far a Paper Prop guy, I certainly can appreciate the work/effort involved here. Keep up the good work!

thank you very much Joberg,

After a comment on the RPF, I made Deckard a bit younger and I'm quite happy with the new result. It's vry close to my previous verison, just almost 10 years younger and a bit cleaner.

before/after

for the orthograph fixing, I was thinking to fix it only for Gaff and Holden, the typos are present on the screenused badge and the idea for Deckard is to have something really accurate, but it makes sense to me that they would realize the error and fix it for later badges.

hi guys,
yes I'm doing Holden too, I'm struggling more with his picture for now, that's why I'm not showing it for now.

I'm working on doing a run of the 4 IDs, but this will not be right now as I have mistery problems with paypal (They think I own the RPF and want me to remove all the grenades sales from it, they locked my account in the meantime, no kidding!). I need to solve all of this and also assemble the badges themselves. I'm almost done with my computer files and I have almost all materials coming to me. Still need to make sure everything is perfect, I'm very very very picky

thanks for the support

Hey there,
so, I think I'm ready to print. I'm still waiting for most of the materials though, the virus situation is really hard on the postal system it seems.
here is a pic to show quickly the photos, IDs, different circle code bars, and signatures for the characters, sorry again for the low quality and all the watermarks.
so, to summerize, id numbers are based on actors birthdays. Bryant, Holden and Gaff signature are all created using the actors autographs and Deckard's is writen by me, inspired by the way Harrison Fords signs as I couldn't create a signature directly from his autograph.

I hope you guys like it, don't hesitate to comment
