My first infidelity to Alien universe... but still a 1979 movie where the bad guy is ejected outside the spaceship at the end .
When child, and always true now, I have always regret that a model of the Moonraker space station has never been released. So I made one
lately. An humble tribute to one of my favorite SFX artist : Mr Derek Meddings. You will note that this is not an accurate model but made from low cost stuff (hamster balls, lens caps, plastic pipes, coffee capsules...so no close photos here because the best looking effect are general views ). Only the Moonrakers are existing 4" die cast Corgi models.
The "hardest" step was to understand the design (by Ken Adam) of the station and how everything was connected...

Two ping pong balls for the upper sphere

Capsule coffee and lens caps reunited for the shuttles docking bays

Solar panels made from cardboard and one dining table plastic set for the grid look (has to be painted in black later)

Ready for the paint job...

Even if I have included a double thread nylon for suspension, I prefer the safety of a real support...made from two plastic curtains stick.

The final result ...

...Moonraker 6 in final approach...

... when E.T meet James Bond

An imaginative rendering using found parts. The original seems to have met it's destiny some time ago...

Thanks Bwood...I would love to see this model. It seems to be a concept model as the big original one was shot gun by Derek Meddings and his sfx unit
