Oh man, you did a top notch job on her.
Colloidal Graphite huh?
Very interesting finish choice. You wouldn't have any "in progress" pics would you?
Love to see them. _________________ I don't have enough blasters! |

Thanks all! There's some pretty high standards to live up to on this board.

Unfortunately, no. Shoulda thought of that... Next blaster, however, I will endeavor to do so.
The graphite was a total experiment for me, I wasn't sure if it'd work at all. It's definitely got it's pros and cons: On the pro side, if goes on extremely thin and doesn't compromise any of the casting detail, on the con side, it scuffs VERY easily and retains fingerprints like you wouldn't believe.
I was able to deal with this by using Lauer DuraCoat, which is an actual gun finish consisting of an extremely thin epoxy that is applied with an airbrush. I can now handle the blaster to my heart's content without compromising the finish in any way. It's also super durable, and once it's cured, very tough. I'm sure the blaster could be scratched if I tried hard enough, but casual or even frequent handling presents no problems whatsoever. It also seals the weathering very nicely, since I wouldn't want it to weather any further than I've already done.
Overall, I'm very pleased with the final effect of the finish, and will definitely be using it, and other colloidals, on my Offworld WorldCon mod. |

Duracoat, huh? Awesome!
I almost bought some of that to refinish a .22 rifle. I decided to spend my hobby $$$ on something else.
Your blaster looks great! _________________ I find your lack of faith disturbing. . . |
