hehe! Well, if hte book finally got printed, yes. I'll mantain my offer 2x1 for the very first 100 pre-orders.
But, as said y the last post, if the book got to Blurb service, it will be a one by one order direct from their service. I need to make a decission to avoid a more great delay. Currently, I have a bunch of material, several contributors with very interesting material too (well, YOU are one!!!! ) and.... is time to put all together and make this book happens!
I have a clear idea in mind. This will be the first book in a series. It's almost impossible to get ALL in one book, for obvius reasons. Everyday it passes, more things happens, more props appears, are identified, or a prop maker are doing some new... then, I must mark a line, take off, and make the first one NOW!
Your thoughts will be appreciated as well!!!
Oh, and your bottle, when received, will have a very special place in my collection! For sure!!!
Cheers! _________________

Wow, i've visited. Seems like other photographic books. Price are high... if you wanna do a 100 or 150 pages book!
Anyway, thanks for the info! _________________

Well, not for now. First, I must contact with the two designers working in both cover design and inside layout. Then, at the same time, I'll order a book (of other author) from Blurb to check quality. Meanwhile, I will put things down to a worksheet to make clear for all of us (contributors and interested people) contents available, contents required and/or wished.
Thus, all the people than have any interest in contribute and share their pictures, thougts, explanations, makeing of processes of props, and eveything else, could start to send whatever to the Book Forum site, or contact me private to decide the better way to do things.
Then... I will start to make decissions....
How much pictures and texts we have at all?
Which topics to cover? (if Blurb is the choice, I have no limit.... well, 400 pages is the BIG limit....).
Who are contributors and their shared proposals?
Credits, of course.
Spread topics availability... the world of Blade Runner can be explored in full (ever if no limited pages, thus, Blurb choice -or a similar service, of course!).
All of this will change many many things...
If I don't need to invest a penny in the book production, things will go faster, cheaper, and softlessly, IMHO. No hurries, no pre-orders payments, no hassles... Every book could be ordered one by one (or any quantity) from the service site (ever talking about Blurb, but I don't decided yet if THIS is the method, until I see a book in my hands).
My offer, 2x1, will have no sense in this new scene. But, things will be better for all of us! Bigger book, both in size and pages. I'll try to stay in the price range first proposed at maximum. I must check costs for pages quantity and sizes, make my own calculations, and decide the right size and go...
Another interesting choice. Binding stules. They have three choices. From cheap to not-so-cheap. Nice for who wnats a top quality binding to collect, and one more cheap to use it (my case!!!!).
Back to the question. There is no date limit to make submissions and proposals. I will work with whatever I have in hands for now. I think summer is not the best time to put limits...
A very important thing about pictures:
- 300 dpi quality minimum. If you use a digital camera to take snapshots, it's ok. Use maximum quality available. RAW mode if possible, if not, TIFF mode, if not... well, JPEG at maxmium quality. No crop, no resize or resample pictures. There is not limit in size. As I said several times here and at Forum Book, I could setup an FTP account for everyone to make easy the process of uploading big files. Also, snail mail could do the trick (sending a CD or DVD could be easier than uploading 700Mb or 4Gb of pictures...). Details via PM.
- Use neutral backgrounds if possible. Artistic pictures are very nice, but the main point of this book is to show items in the best homogeneous form. A white background could be the best (or a chroma key colour, like blue or green, to remove background at all). If this is not possible, Ok, no matter, but remove all the not pertinent objects around the item before take a pic.
- If item is pictured in a expo or event (like WorldCon), or a museum, or a collector room.... focus to the item. A general view of the room or scene could be interesting as extra image, but, item is the most important.
Also, if you have a collection of items (mainly objects like props or so), and you wanna show it to the world.... make an scene with all of them, take a pic or two, and I will add them to your profile as contributor. No matter if you have only a blaster and whisky bottle, or the entire wardrobe of the movie!
More about all of this soon.... _________________

Well.... three different books ordered at Blurb... Softcover, Hardcover wrapped and hardcover with jacket. A little investment to watch the different choices... (I must admit, two of the ordered books are about Japan streets... )
This will be usefull to test qualities, bindings, and shipping delivery time to Europe... at least...
Stay tuned. _________________

Nice to add you! I add you for 2 copies, but.... as mentioned, the number of copies could be not relevant if I decide to use blurb.com service.
Anyway, I put you on the list.
And, your collection is wonderful. I'll be very pleased to include all you want. Especially scr4een used ones, of course.
Take a look at the Book Forum site. There are a bunch of details about this project as well.
Cheers! _________________

Please, read carefully previous posts. This list could be not usefull if finally I decide to use the online publishing service. But, I well appreciate to have all of you here in the list, to know how many people are interested, how many books you want, and so on.
I will have samples of these kind of books in two or three weeks, to compare with printing ones, and decide...
Meanwhile, I follow to collect data, pictures, and so on to be included!
STAY TUNED!

Take note. These 3 books are not the prop book. Are some other books (for sale at Blurb) with some differences in size, binding, etc. I need to evaluate all of aspects. Contents? Well, two about Japan (my dream) and other about landscape photography. Very different approaches each one. In size, in page number, composition.... a good test to decide if this is the way to do the Props Book.
Waiting.... _________________

I hope you have a good graphic designer who can do the page layouts. That could be the difference between a good effort and a masterpiece. |

Yes, I have. And my own knowledge will be added too... I've worked in magazines and currently as Web page designer/programmer.... Only expecting that all together will be a nice result.
