Merci Fred, j'en aurai besoin , thanks again for the feedback and here are the latest pictures....I know, details, details; but it had to be done: grill at the back of the small screen (I think there's a hole of some kind on the original VK) and the metal piece holding the baffles together

Thanks Neil I don't know if you, or somebody here, can help me but I would like to have the pic showing Deckard in Tyrel's office with the VK in front of him...it seems that the machine has some kind of ribbon coming from the 2 spaces placed at the bottom of the machine. Maybe someone could confirm? |

I had a hunch that the arm would've been difficult...but I didn't know how much . I'm trying to reproduce it as close as the original version and here is my work so far:

The last one is with the arm extended...hope you like it |

Thanks guys That's it, one part of the arm is finally done; the 2 pulleys are in place as well as the driving belt. The next step is to work on the VK body itself to add the back parts that holds the arm at rest.

This is fantastic. I love the work that is being done.
Mike and I had decided to do a VK for Morgan Paull for the 2000 sci -fi convention in Tacoma.. I wish I would have purchased it from Mike but I thought he wanted to keep it after the terrible experience at the convention.
I do wish I could talk to him about it and see what he thinks of the progress.

I had talked with Mike Morpheus13. about his not that long ago. He is a member here too. He told me he sold the one he made for the convention and had hoped to make another more accurate one down the road using better reference material. I will have to point him to this thread.

It would be interesting to get his take on the newer versions of the VK. That was 9 years ago, seems like a thousand. He does terrific work! |

hello again guys. Andy was nice enough to drop me an email about the thread.
Joberg, youve done a really great job with your replica It looks great. Its funny looking at the pictures because it reminds me of when I built mine. We just have a very similar building style.
I dont really have too much to add in terms of help, just wanted to tip my hat to a fine build. Good luck with it!
...and Gary...Im still at the same number and address. Im pretty sure you sent me an xmas card this past christmas too lol. PMing you now

Thanks guys for the comments ...Mike, I don't know if you had access to good pics, or on what kind of material/research you based your VK, but I'm sure that if somebody else was to tackle that project, it would be a different machine then the one I'm building now. As I said before I started the prop: it's not accurate; accurate would mean pictures of the actual props and measurements/angles of all the components featured on the machine. |

yeah, its a hard prop to get your head around. Just not enough good refernce from the films. Like I mentioned in the other thread, all I used was the original DVD and the Criterion LD. Not too much there to go by.
Im guessing youre running into the same problems I did except since your not under any deadlines you have to time to sketch things out and see how they fit together.
When I started building my second one it was coming out better because I had time to pay closer attention to everything but I quickly realized that I was running into the same problems. Just not enough reference.
Now, I have all the refernce that I need to make a perfect copy. I was working with someone from the production that has unfortunately disappeared on me (and hopefully Gary can help me out with that). If I can track him down I might be able to finally deliver an accurate replica.
In the meantime though I think its a cool prop to work on and have fun with. Ive told a few people over the years that if you want to do it, just do it and have fun. Too many people get caught up with making it perfect and selling it, etc etc. This thing Im working on is a technically a commision or partnership so yeah , I want it to be perfect, but theres also something to be said about just winging it and coming up with a best guess...just being creative and imaginitive. Always nice to see someone tackling the tough props. |

Yes, I know what you mean; it would be cool to have the definite references on that baby and put the guessing game to rest once and for all. It's true that with HD pics/propstore/auction catalogue, etc, our work produces a much better "look" or accurate replica |

Sometimes using your own imagination can make something even better than the original, like in the case of Rick Ross and his PKD's.

Exactly Andy. My PKDs are just as loved as any other more accurate pistol. |
