Yeah, I'm a huge fan of Sir Scott's masterpiece !!!
I must say I really don't like the 3rd (good potential but poor result) and I literaly HATE the 2nd & 4th (sorry guys, it's just my opinion here, don't take it personaly : IMHO the 2nd is just a Reagan era movie and the 4th is, well, hate the humor and the dumb story)

I like all of them to a degree, but the first one is the only one that is a masterpiece IMHO.

Almost all of these directors have gone on to win Oscars, if not at least be nominated for one, not bad for a "Horror Franchise".
I really like Jean-Pierre Jeunet's films, and kind of wish a real Director's cut of 'Resurrection' showed up. I have a feeling he didn't have too much power over script and editing over this film. Still all of the "Quadrilogy" get more interesting during repeated viewings. As opposed to the AvP movies which just get dumber and cheesier.

...I totally agree regarding AvP....second movie at least gave us a great space ship and the Alien skull trophy was a deft touch.... _________________ ...the future is not all it's cracked up to be... |

Only as cheesy sci-fi horror movies. They ignore established canon and are pretty much entirely new stories/settings using the creatures from the original movies.
The AVP films make really kind of a half assed attempt to tie into the original canon of both films, but they don't do it very well at all. _________________

....rant ahead....please feel free to completely ignore...
although not my cup of tea the AvP franchise clearly appeals to some people...ditto the Alien franchise which I happen to like...they are after all...only movies...
my rant consists of the following...
"opinions are like assholes....everybody has one"
...one man's opinion...(smiling)

If you like cheesy cliche'd horror flicks like many of us do when the feeling is right, and a few beers are in hand, the films are alright. Reminds me of the old Abbott and Costello movies with Dracula, the Wolfman and the Mummy all in one movie. Actually Dark Horse comics made the match up first and they weren't half bad for comics. As part of a Netflix or RedBox rental they are cool, or even if you just borrow them. Not sure if they are worth watching more than once though. They aren't total crap, but sometimes total crap is fun too.

....funny thing about those old Abbott and Costello "horror" films....they are some of Quentin Tarantino's favorite films...I heard him wax eloquent on them in an interview with Elvis Mitchell on TCM a month or so ago.....there is a series of Abbott and Costello box sets available and one of them has all of the horror films....what a hoot....and tremendous fun....

Believe it or not, there was a 9th passenger aboard the Nostromo...
A bug can be seen flying peacefully behind Brett's shoulder in the scene when him & Parker are aguing with Ripley on Deck B... Look, it's right in the middle of the red circle !!!
