Dunno what that post is about, as I can't access the RPF post.

If you want a show that had a distinctly BR feel and style, Total Recall 2070 was a hell of a lot closer to BR than it was to Total Recall. They have full episodes here:

Low budget, but it touched on a lot of the things that were in Blade Runner.

Here is the original post from HAL9000 at the RPF (the posts that follow it are just opinions pro or con so I omitted them).

Quote:
This is just something I have heard from an agent...

Halcyon (the guys producing Terminator Salvation) have also finally acquired
full access/film rights to the majority of Phillip K Dick's library including any
further works of "do androids dream of electric sheep".

Allegedly there is a plan to develop either a direct sequel to the 1982 film
or a TV series in the vein of Galactica / Sarah Connor Chronicles that
deals with spin off / related characters / storylines.

btw Ridley Scott is absolutely 1000% not connected or interested.

I have a wait and see policy before I react to stories like this. Sometimes they do end up being crap, especially if I get excited for it. However many things that I had no hopes for turned out to be pretty good, such as the new Battlestar Gallactica. It would be a good way to get around the hold on the BR licence the Blade Runner Partnership has. I am also not surprised that Ridley would have nothing to do with it. He has stated many times that he does not like to "revisit material", even though with all the cuts of BR it seems the opposite. In those cases it was others that started the process and he had to at least just sign off on it.

as long as it is the same quality as the new Knight Rider series I'll be happy. Twisted Evil

like the man said, There Can Be Only One.

I hope and think that any sane man in the entertainment industry has the guts to let it be and see what we already have as something that never can be re-made. IMHO Blade Runner is as good as it get's. To see a new movie or TV series being made based upon Blade Runner with the usual TV low budget and CGI would make me sad and angry. Evil or Very Mad

The only way that this could work would be to go down the animated path.
An animated series would offer the flexability of technology and storyline
that a "real life" production would always fall short of.
It would also be much easier to get people on board that would not normally contribute, Im sure even Ridely and Harrison might feel a spark of excitement for such a groundbreaking concept, because thats what it would have to be to work. The bonus as well is that if the storyline follows that of the movie, original actors voices could be used, the "voice-over" is now a respected and very lucrative practise nowadays.
To produce an animated series that could capture the exact "feel" of the movie and and at the same time capture a broad market is something that is indeed a challenge.
Imagine though, the offworld colonies rendered by some of mangas most influencial artists, the sky is the limit.

Good idea but there'll always be a problem with animated series produced in the US and Europe : animation itself !

I've worked on a lot of animated series (for the US and Europe) in the 90s and that was the main problem encountered by each production I was involved in : You'll always find great artists to provide gorgeous designs (characters and backgrounds) and storyboards, but in most of the cases you'll have to rely on Chinese or Corean animation studios to do the "dirty job"... and that's where the crap begins to happen.

IMHO, a 100% Japanese production would be the safest way to secure a high quality animated series (like they did on the Animatrix).

Actually, the series could be amazing if it's done right. This is the age of well written, cinematic TV shows.

I just don't think the story is true.

Someone heard something from a guy who may know something that he heard from someone else. An AGENT no less. The most honest human beings on the face of the earth, right after lawyers (no offense John)

I think part of the magic of Blade Runner is that it created this believable world and hints at so much more going on around. It is the world of BR that I want to visit it all, and explore so much of it completely. Many shows and movies have tried to a degree to expand upon it, most notably 'Total Recall 2070' , the New 'Battlestar Gallactica', and movies like 'Dark City' and 'the Matrix' series. As good as some of these are, none have satisfied my appetite for more BR.

I think the great problem with trying to recapture the magic of anything is that it only works if it is original and comes from true creative imagination. The creative process itself needs variation in order to create new fresh imagery, and therefore cannot recreate the "same" magic that came before. The end result is often just weak imitation.

In order for something like this to work would be the need of someone who has reverence for the original material, and at the same time will use it for inspiration to go new places all together.

In a singular piece of work like a movie, much more originality and intensity is needed. While a series can spend time exploring all kinds of new places using the old world as it's center. Also trying to be "true' to some thing's literary source often gives us the Sci-Fi channel's Dune series and the Shining mini-series. All well told stories but visually dull.

I personally would be okay with something that used a lot of CGI as long as it isn't gratuitous. BR had a lot of restraint with it's effects as well the best FX men in the business.

I would rather see something inspired by BR than a retelling of the story in P.K.Dick's vision. I like his work a lot, and find it brilliant, but also find it hard to connect with at times. After reading his stuff I often feel to some degree enlightened, but more dizzy and frustrated from his continual change of directions.

It is in the end the Visual aspect of BR that I connect with the most, and I would love just about any story told in that setting.

This is now a fact, the company have even said they may bring out a game in 2010.
Whether any form of film, game or animation will actually happen is still not guaranteed but they are definetly talking about it.

I would be quite happy to see a game, Would not like the idea of a remake at all.

Here are copies of a couple of bits of news i put on Bladezone the other day
I was at the launch of Michael Deelys new book last night and i can tell you that there is no way there will be another Blade Runner. I do not have time to go into details now as i am behind in work but there were some interesting points and information during his chat.
Will post more info asap and if it is good enough, a audio recording of the session on my website.
Will keep you posted

I am not at home at the moment so just a quick post, i said to him that Halcyon Pictures have picked up the rights to PKD work and that there was talk of a film and even a game, i also mentioned the Eagle Sequel and he looked at me straight in the eye and said "not with Blade Runner they cant"
He also said in the interview that there would not be another Blade Runner.
