ah well. I'll ask around too. Y'see, using a barrier screen will get you better 3D and motion, and absolutely no lensing is needed. I've made barrier images a few years back when I could get a guy to run some Kodalith barrier screens. The overall concept is very similar to lenticulars, and I have the necessary software to generate barrier readable pictures. I think that sentence makes sense... Anyway they're ideal for the VK application because a barrier image *requires* backlighting, and at least once upon a time, a barrier screen was a whole lot cheaper than lenticular lensing...

Nah, mine is the cheapo method. Your intimation of using electronic displays is the coolest, if one has the bucks. All barrier or lenticulars are are place holders. But that's the neat thing about this VK project. From each, according to his ability, to each according to his need, or something like that. Upgrade as time and money permits...

Heres the completed vid phon sign and the rest of the collection so far.
As time goes on i will get more made but if anyone has their own design
feel free to see if its possible to produce.

The guy has agreed to charge only $45.00AUS for each sign
regardless of size, the Coca Cola size is about the size limit for that price.
When i get a chance next week i will do a dummy run to the post office
and get some different shipping prices.
Will be taking orders next week.

Oh, baby. An electroluminescent sheet behind that Vid-Phon panel would make a sweet display on a flat wall.

Beautiful work, offworld66!

Thanks Gary,
The lightsheet is a great option, it will be interesting to see how people get theirs lit up. The original seemed to have just one globe in the centre but im gunna steer
away from electric globes to avoid any heat issues.
Many thanks to all who helped with its design, especially spinner44.com.
Tim

Wish i could help with the sound but don't have an audio editing software on my PC.

If you still haven't gotten it sorted in the future i'll try and get something. Wouldn't mind giving it ago anyway.

Nice work so far! Keep posting pictures.
Have you made any more signs?
And I'd skip the batteries,
and power the leds with a Radio Shack 7.5 to 9V DC transformer
that plugs into the wall.
Then just string the wires around like speaker wires to each light.

Just use a resistor inline with each led.
The leds are less bright (like a lightbulb) at 7.5V
and really bright at 12V
so I like to run them with lower volts
so they last longer
and look like real light bulb light.
I'd use the heavy duty transformer,
the cheap ones are lower power rating
and will stop working or not have enough power.

Use a 1500ma (minimum) transformer
for reliable, multible led lighting service
in models and projects like this.
And just hook leds up to it keeping + and - always .

I'm looking forward to seeing more of this fun project.
Your off to a great start!

Ron

Thanks for the tips Ron, i wont give up on the batts just yet cause if i can get the results i want out of a self contained box its better.
I couldnt see the boxes being on for hours at a time but thats stage 3, this is stage 2.

I put this whole thing together in less than 2 hours, quick for me, just from stuff around the house, very basic but hopefully practicle. The only
things i need to improve it are screws at the back, some possible thin foam strips for light leakage and plastic "L" borders for the front face.
Next is stage 3, fitting the correct interior lighting, lots of trial and error i think.

THE ORIGINAL............

You put that together in a couple of hours from stuff you had around the house?

Shocked

I was especially impressed when I saw your "quickie" box juxtaposed with the original.

Very nice indeed!
