A little late to the party, but all the way in!

Great project, and with the technology available today (not to mention the talent on this board), it seems the V-K machine is at last within our grasp.

Doc's list of project parameters looks great to me, including flexibility that allows each of us to have a beautiful replica at a relatively low cost or to customize in accordance with our heart's desires and budgets.

Ready to contribute in any way that I can.

I've been working with a buddy helping him with video editing, and his super high end HD camera could be very useful here... doing the jumpcut zoom ins and outs, with the "static" cross wipes would be a sinch. So maybe this could be my contribution? I really want one of these things....

My eyedoc is looking through the junk he still has for videos and dvds showing laser eye surgery techniques. His partner now does all the laser work, but he thinks he still has some vhs material, which transferred to mpeg might be good enough.

I would love to be involved in this. Last year I cut together some visuals I did in a nite club VJ show I did - I did a big section that was close-ups of eyes.

I'll see what I have...
Here's some pictures of the VK and it's case from the deleted scenes to get peolpe fired up! LOL!

We'll also need (of course) little stainless steel VK logo plates for the cases.

Nice shots, Rustyn242. Very Happy

I apologize in advance for bringing up a question that has no doubt been posed and answered elsewhere... but which parts of the V-K machine, if any, have already been identified as found parts? If a thread on this already exists, would you please point me the way?

Thanks!

Great stuff guys,
The more options we have the better.
Chew, pm me as i will have a little something put together this week that would look fantastic with your static cross wipes. I can send you the dvd and maybe you could play with it.

Ive just sent doc the frame by frame pics of the eye close up with the pupil dilating and im sure using that or some stuff from his eye buddy,
he will come up with something that will only require some minor backlighting.

On the video option, im having trouble finding bare bone LCD screens
that could resolve some issues. Here is an example taken from
roboterkampfs blimp project that would be perfect, if anyone knows a source for these screens, please let me know.
I would really like to know what the screen dimensions are on the mold that is to be used, once i know what screen size i have to work with
its just a matter of finding the cheapest, most appropriate model and pull it apart.

OK
Here is a link to the 2 minute version of a 2 hour DVD a friend and i , more him, put together from the 4 seconds of vision from the ad.
Ive added a little extra "interference" that can be easily removed for those who want strictly original.
The horizontal lines are not in the actual file, just a hosting thing.
If anybody wants a copy of the dvd or file to play with, let me know.
Working on the same kind of thing for the smaller screens as we speak.

Excellent job Tim (and friend)!! Now, seeing different pictures of the V.K. I noticed that many repros (RPF & blue-print) are not very accurate. If that project is to fly, we should dedicate a topic to just that; pictures, blue-prints and every single details of that machine. Also making sure that, in that new topic, we separate major components e.g. main body topic, arm topic, screen topic, etc...making sure that any new photo makes it in the appropriate topic because, as for now, everything is everywhere without any proper order.

just my two cents

Thanks joberg.
I agree, it is a bit of a dogs breakfast at the minute but it is still very early days, if we started a dedicated thread now it would probably
get distorted as well but could also be very helpfull. This is the only
online forum ive ever been involved with so am still a little naive as to proper thread structure.
It seems people are holding back till the idea gets a little more substance, probably seen this kind of project rise and fall in the past but im
sure if we can get to a viable mold stage, things will really start to happen.
Has anyone been able to do anything with the plans Thomas kindly donated?

Tim, I'm afraid Thomas' blueprint is not accurate. To make it screen accurate we need more pics, more refs to produce something that comes very close to the real thing(s), and to which everybody agrees in terms of final look and design.

So should I build the first test lenticulars to the Thomas screen size?

Birdie WROTE:
Quote:
Great work!

I am currently reworking for accuracy the VK machine built by TH Studios and displayed on the RPF: http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=44593

I purchased the molds from Tyler and will be offering a reworked version for sale in the near future.

Tyler appears to have used the Morpheous build for reference rather than the movie one, I'm shooting for something a little more screen accurate.

I'll start a new thread with pics in a week or two

Once Birdie can get this up and running we may have our foundation
and if he is not modifying the screen dimensions we can start on our projects I guess. It seems accuracy issues will be addressed.
Also a tech maint buddy at work told me not to discount the use of
the same size CRT screen as used in the original, they are numerous
in supply and can be wired to run off an mp4 for the vision and the smaller screens are probably large video camera viewfinders.

As you said Tim, we'll have to base our measurement on a CRT screen then go from there. Also the back housing of that screen is completely different than the blueprint and the molds done by a RPF member.
Let's not for the sake of this project put the cart before the horses. This is not a critic of what people have already done in terms of ideas, screen captures and the likes. It's just that the general ''giddyness'' might lead to errors that could've been avoided in the first place.
I hope we'll take a step back and that cooler heads will prevail.
I want to see that project succeed as much as the others

Your points are all valid joberg but tooing and froing is not what im trying to promote.
How can we get ahead of ourselves when we have nothing as yet to get ahead of, just some eye options. I am just trying to speculate
until someone is prepaired to present a viable design that reaches a concensus. Evolution is what it is.
Please dont take this the wrong way but a running commentary on my posts isnt producing other options or promoting further discussion.
I think it might be best if i just take a backseat on this for a while and concentrate on finishing other projects.
