Hello all,

These are my recent attempts at creating 1:1 scale replicas of the origami figures made by Gaff as seen throughout the film.

I put the quarter there as a size reference to see how small these actually are. I've studied the figures from the film very carefully to figure out what size my figures should be to measure very closely to the ones seen in the film.

Through trial-and-error and many, many made figures later I've determined that by using two 2.5" pieces of silver foil paper for the unicorn and a 3.5" piece of white paper for the chicken, it matches very closely in scale to the origami figures seen in the film.

And of course, the match is the size of a regular match.

BRAVO!

Any chance of a tutorial on how to fold the chicken? That's the only one I've never seen instructions for.

Thanks everyone! Very Happy

Sadly there does not exist a tutorial for the origami chicken as there is for the unicorn. I myself had searched long and hard for one to no avail, and then a few months ago I found this video on YouTube...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRqfUlWBWvE&feature=channel_page

Unfortunately you can't see a damn thing he's doing, but he has a site where you can purchase his origami figures here:

http://gaff44.web.fc2.com/

I really didn't want to buy the whole set just for the chicken, but I was banking on the hope that by taking his chicken apart I might be able to figure out how he made it.

And I've done just that. Wink

I asked the guy beforehand if he would be able to write up instructions or a diagram on the chicken for me, but told me that it would be too difficult and that he only knew how to do it in his head. Having figured it out myself now, I would concur. It is kind of tricky.

I'll be putting up sets on eBay, in fact I think one is about to end very soon. But I'll be listing more if there's enough demand.

His price on the website for the set is $10, but if you follow the payment link it is $25. Shocked

Hmmmmm.

I think that video showed me just enough to figure out the chicken. I'll have a lull in my schedule next weekend, we'll see what I can do.

Thanks again for the link!

Yeah, that's how much I paid for my set. If he lowered it to $10, well that kinda sucks for me! Confused

Having the set myself, I must warn you all that his figures are not exactly 1:1 scale. His unicorn is slightly larger, and it looks like it was made out of a thicker, dull silver kind of paper rather than chrome foil. His chicken is well done, but very tiny. And I honestly think I did a better job on the stick man(his is a regular small paper match, mine is wood).

But I have to say, it was worth it just to take his chicken apart to figure out how he made it. Now I can make my own at various sizes, here is a larger 2:1 scale version I did.

I'm currently working on a Blade Runner-themed base stand for the figures, which would then make things totally complete.
