Hooray! I just bought a Fiesta Magazine Vol 11 No 2 on evilbay as well!
it was in a "preloved" "gentlemens" magazine auction! Now I just need to figure out how to make a tasteful display

Don't worry, JTP, I instructed the seller to send it to you in a nice, clear, plastic bag so the world can see it.
You're all justa buncha pervs. So where did you get it again? |

Very interesting theory, I really like the idea that it could have been Harry Dean's own box !!!
I should be in touch with one of the prop guys who worked on the movie in the upcoming weeks, I'll ask him if he recalls where this box came from...
Fred
PS : JT & SJ, I'm glad to see I'm not the only madman here !!!
You should maybe try to contact kevin (he's a member here) to buy some of his Blade Runner mag covers (KILL, KROTCH, MONI, etc), this way FIESTA would almost pass unnoticed in your homes...

I got mine on evilbay, some tosser in the U.K. selling a whole collection...probably the same place Fred found his LOL ... but seriously all jokes aside, I imagine these people are scratching their heads and wondering why the sudden jump in sales for this magazine..
Mine looks less "loved" than Freds,.... his is more "studio accurate"

OK, something else I've found about Brett : He's a navy buff ! Look at the wood models aside his seat :
1 : A Galleon on the left
2 : A junk on the right
There's LOT a lot of ships images and photos in the "destruction room"... Maybe he was a sailor himself ?!!
Fred
PS : So, who's going to buy a junk wood model now ???

Well... I mostly wear black and white, so... Brett's shirt is cool... on Brett ! (but if you guys want to track it for real, I'd be really glad to see a close-up of the fabric !)

One of my Jamaican friend was always excited when seeing Brett wearing a "National Sport Shirt" with the signature" by Manhattan " made in Jamaica...and yes, it's from the late '70s. Good luck finding the same design. |

Another thing about the BALAJI IMPERIAL pack of cigarettes, the fictitious brand chain smoked by Lambert...
It appears from time to time in the hands of Lambert or near her, just like in those screencaps :
I know it's an old story BUT I have new info regarding the origins of its name, courtesy of Dennis Lowe who kindly accepted to ask Ivor Powell ( associate producer on ALIEN) if he had any memories of this prop... Here is his answer (pasted here with his approval) :
As for the cigarettes. I kind of recognize the packet, which has to be some kind of Turkish cigarette – but Balaji cigarettes don’t seem to exist (I googled them). Given that Balaji is the Christian name of the guy that played the Alien, I reckon that it could be a kind of in-joke between Art dept and Ridley. However, it looks like a close-up/insert shot and I wonder when it was shot, because I only discovered Balaji during the main unit shooting and given that we shot the command module/cockpit sequences right at the beginning of the main unit schedule – then nobody would have heard of Balaji at that point. Maybe we shot this insert after main unit shooting had finished – but I don’t remember doing it.
It’s a bit of a mystery. Very intriguing. If I bump into Mike Seymour (Prod Designer) I’ll ask him.
(Note : He's talking about the first screencap of this post)
OF course !
BolAJI BALejo (his full name) = BALAJI imperial
I really love the dark humour here : Dressed as the Alien or his name written on a pack of cigarettes, in both cases his job really was to kill the Nostromo crew !

Interesting Fred (as always). The plot thickens...I hope we'll have the answer from Mr. Seymour. After all those years it's remarkable that some particular detail/prop are still being remembered by the guys who worked on that movie. |
