Thanks Fred, I knew you could pull it out. Bosch's work stems also of a highly religious education (sometimes I think Belgium is more catholic than the Vatican). So hell (earth for him) is always represented in his paintings. No Andy, you're not alone

Also the works of Francis Bacon, another great artist.
Compare his 1944 work 'Three Studies for Figures at the Base of a Crucifixion' to the design for Giger's work of the chestburster.

Great minds think alike.

Most Giger fans I used to meet were more Metal, Prog and Fantasy fans than 'Goths' (and yes I was a goth Embarassed ). The post-punk UK Goth imagery was like a weird mix of German Expressionism, Bowie, Glam Rock, 50's Horror B-Movies, Rocky Horror. It was tongue-in-cheek, theatrical, hedonistic and fun (Bauhaus, Sex Gang Children, Specimen, Christian Death, Cramps)

Did anyone here play 'Dark Seed'? I loved it but it's amazing how primitive it looks now.

His work is actually a lot better than this when he has a better canvas too, and it is more original now as well.

Thats excellent.

The coolest item of Giger-related clothing I've ever seen was a pair of sheer black tights on a Goth girl that had a Giger-esque motif 'embossed' up the outside leg.

There's also this very interesting blog, from one of the ALIENEXPERIENCE guys...

Great analysis on the design origins of the Space Jockey... (I think there's also a little something of Philippe Druillet's art in the elephantine head)

We basicly got that same exhibition into Finland and I visited there few weeks ago. Mindblowing stuff!
Loved so much to see actual screenused Alien stuff and consept art for many of HR Giger's movieprojects. Museum guys were not experts of mr Giger's works. I did luckily watch Alien Makers III dvd before the exhibion, so got much better explanations how works were done, -and why.
Museum had also 30 min film about making of Alien, filmed by Giger himself. That was top cool. Sadly not for sale. For the merchandise they had nice exhibition book and 4 different posters. Felt so lucky to experience all that on my home country, just 160km from my home.

He's truly one of a kind. Never seen his works in person, glad you had a chance to see some.

Sadly not. I was prepared with new camera and loads of memorycards. Big disappoinment they didn't allow any kind of photographing. Even from distance or low-resolution. Exhibition is pretty well guarded, so there is no change to take pics. Every room had own guard.

On beginning of exhibition, there is Giger's famous harkonnen chair set from Dune. One of guides told elderly woman had touched and polished with her hand one of black skulls of chairset tablecorners. She was told to not touch, where this old lady said sarcastic; "I have similar on my home."

Maybe I return to see that exhibition once again. It was so great.

Some never before seen (at least by me) photos of the "translucent Alien" option finally not used in the film :
