Thanks Andy; excellent pics; especially showing the Deckard figure: seems that they put a small motor in the neck of the figures to make their heads turn...maybe the arms of Gaff were also supposed to move...
That car is in need of a serious overhall! |

Haha...i didn't even notice what he was holding.
Notice the windscreen in the background aswell?
Perhaps he's looking at the colour of the cockpit instead of the outside shade of blue?
I want to know more now, lol. |

Do we know who the guy is?
Maybe we can locate him and ask what colour he used?

For a couple of the spinners I painted, I used Citadel paint's Deadly Nightshade color which is basically a very dark blue, it does tend to photograph a much lighter blue tho, but it matches pretty well the original color. _________________

One of my friends knows J.M. Deschamps really well...
I've pointed this thread to him, let's hope now JMD will join propsummit in the near future to discuss this Spinner model with us !

Thanks Fred; I've always wonder why the model ended up in France instead of Belgium? ...seriously; after seeing the pics I think it's time to have a talk with Bill George, one of the original model-maker of the Spinner and think about restorating the car |

You're welcome mates (let's hope it'll work now !)
IIRC the spinner was in really bad shape when it was offered to La Cinémathèque de Paris museum... JMD could have easily restored it (I saw pics of a scratch-built 2001 space station he made and all I could say was "WOW !") but he choosed instead to do minor repairs, just to avoid further degradation...
Fred
PS : See the robot feet in the pic Neil posted just above ? they belong to the Metropolis robot (original prop, of course !) (METROPOLIS original props and pre-production artwork were transfered to Paris in the 30s by someone close to Fritz Lang, just after Hitler took the power in Germany) _________________ THE FUTURE IS A THING OF THE PAST |

Lots of mistake on the Spinner model: a tear-drop gyro at the righ-hand side/back of the car , the motorized gyro should be on Gaff's side, missing lights on the roof, etc...I should stop looking at the pics; they make me sad |

I've asked and asked and asked my friend to bug J.M. Deschamps but alas he won't register on propsummit for now, "too busy with too many ongoing projects" he said...
Damn...

For what it's worth , Greg Winfield, I am told, used Ford Mattisse Blue Metallic paint with lacquer finish , on the fullsized version and the reconstruction that's now in the Seattle Museum and I am led to believe, but have no actual proof, that it was also use on the smaller filming models. |

Most of the time a model cannot be painted the same shade as its 1:1 copy in the same movie, why? Because of a lot of "physical effects", i.e.: lighting, smoke, rain, etc. So it's very possible the model Spinner was lighter because on screen, the model wouldn't have looked as sharp as the real car (loss of details is one of the big problems with darker colours)...just my 2 cents |
