Sorry but this one is closed.

All left over kits are now being built up to fill orders.

As for another run we will have to see.

The Plaque was made with the number 50, so there is room for some 20 plus more.

So perhaps.

Well a small problem has shown up in the grips and outer frame fitting.

When I ran off the first run I took a couple and built them up, everything seemed to line up fine.

So I packed up and shipped the kits.

Then I started building the next batch of full buildups along with the pick of the litter five to be the deluxe models.

Well I found that a lot of the outer grip frames did not line up as well with the grips. I found I had to bend them to get them to line up.

Then as I started to mount them to the pistol frame again I found they were not lining up on the pistol and again had to bend then and hammer them into place.

One of the nice things is you can do that with this metal.

By the way the trigger guard can use a light tap just in front to bend it backwards to fit it better.

Why is this happening...I can only guess that as the metal cools after being melted at around 600 degrees it shrinks unevenly causing some warpage. Or the heat warps the molds some or both...

I will be putting together a photo folder showing these bending and hammerings and compressions to help you fit these models better.

Things like this have been a part of building these models all along, all castings plastic and metal will come out different and shift in size and fit to some degree, even in a run of 10 or more there will always be some different sized or shaped parts, not more than a few will be the original size and shape.

Fixing those is the harder part of model making.

I will post when I get the pictures posted.

Thanks for your understanding.

Rich

These are now in a new folder called Grips and Frames part two.

Hope these help you.

Yeah, I sent an email and asked. I put my name in for a spot for another run (if there is one) or if anybody drops out. FAT CHANCE...

Heh.

Is it possible for me to buy a set of just non-found parts such as the grips and side panels? I want to make a full blown blaster out of a real Steyr/Bulldog and I can machine barrel/bolt parts for example but other more organic shapes are difficult for me.

Using Pewter Black:

OK it is both easy and tricky.

Your working with a chemical.

I mix my chemical with distilled water at 50/50.

I then fill a tub big enough to hold the largest part like the receiver and the cylinder.

I then fill two more tubs with tap water. (distilled would be better, less likely of deposits when drying)

I then pour in the mixed water/chemical in tub one (no water in it..) deep enough to fully cover the parts.

So you have three tubs one with chemical and water and two with just tap water.

A ratty old towel next to the last tub is a good idea and some other clean rags.

Protective old clothing and rubber gloves and eye protection is a very good idea.

Then it is simple: dip the parts into the chemical/water mix for a few seconds, you will see it darken, let it get fairly gray and then dip in the water in tap water tub one and then tap water tub two and then on to you rag and dry the part.

Once dry I then go outside as you will make a fine powder, where a face mask, and lightly scotchbright with a gray or white pad to remove the "fur" and to blend the color. (Steel wool will also work)

If you take too much off you can redip the part.

I then polish these parts with a metal polish called Semichrome Polish, this helps farther in lighting and blending the color and seems to provide a coating protection.

OR you can spray paint with a light coat of clear paint.

Read the label about how to dispose of the chemical or save it for later use.

Thanks for the info Rich. With that last line I'm guessing this stuff is some serious poison.

http://s922.photobucket.com/home/racprops/allalbums in Grips and Frames part two.

This should help.

Rich, you really don't have to post the same thing in more than one thread. It is preferred you post in the most appropriate one and then a link to the other if necessary. It clutters up the threads and is annoying to read the same stuff twice. It also doesn't belong in the show off thread so I may end up deleting the repeats there. Another thing I could do if you want is re-title the show off thread to a "building tips" thread, or you could just create a thread for that alone so people can find that info easier if they are looking for it, instead of weeding through a bunch of unrelated stuff.

This is a new report, I added more this morning, so it is newer than the post I made earler and thus those that looks before today will not know of the newer notes and pictures.

OK?

Can you please just post the stuff in one thread though to avoid confusion?

Maybe the best thing to do is for Rich to post the build details in this thread..

The Show off thread should be used for just that - to show off the build!

Regards

MARK

I would be fine with him keeping it in this thread. The show off thread was originally intended for the new owners to show off their builds.

If I was sure everyone read both threads I could.

Most people will just read what is posted most recently. Meaning that most people will read the messages in both, or all related threads. Most forums actually have a rule against multiple posting and call it "spamming", and or "cross posting" (which usually means posting in more than one forum or BBS).

This comes from the old BBS days rules...

Quote:
Multiple postings - It is simply not acceptable to post your question more than once, or to post it in more than one forum. Choose the forum that your question or post best fits in, and place it there and only there.

From Wikipedia...

Quote:
Spamming
Main article: Forum spam
Forum spamming is a breach of netiquette where users repeat the same word or phrase over and over, but differs from multiple posting in that spamming is usually a willful act which sometimes has malicious intent. This is a common trolling technique. It can also be traditional spam, unpaid advertisements that are in breach of the forum's rules. Spammers utilize a number of illicit techniques to post their spam, including the use of botnets.

Some forums consider concise, comment-oriented posts spam, for example Thank you or I love it.

[edit] Double posting
One common faux pas on Internet forums is to post the same message twice. Users sometimes post versions of a message that are only slightly different, especially in forums where they are not allowed to edit their earlier posts. Multiple posting instead of editing prior posts can artificially inflate a user's post count. Multiple posting can be unintentional; a user's browser might display an error message even though the post has been transmitted or a user of a slow forum might become impatient and repeatedly hit the submit button. Multiple posting can also be used as a method of trolling or spreading forum spam. A user may also send the same post to several forums, which is termed crossposting. The term derives from Usenet, where crossposting was an accepted practice; however, it causes problems in web forums, which lack the ability to link such posts, so replies in one forum are not visible to people reading the post in other forums.

If you create a thread called "Building tips for the RAC Props metal propsummit worldcon version" or hopefully something shorter than that Smile, it will help the people that are looking for the information to find it. Posting it in unrelated threads will only clutter up those threads and make people give up reading them. If you want I can split off those posts and create the new thread for you.

Thank you for your help guys,
Andy
