|
|
Hey gang-
So I had threatened in the site rod thread that I was looking into doing a short run of steel replacement barrels for the Sidkit. Ive worked up a prototype that I’m fairly happy with and wanted to share some quick pics. It will be great to hit with some gun blue and as its machined it is soooo much tighter than the casting which it replaces. It is drilled and tapped to match the M3 and M6 cap head machine screws that come with the kit. Ill most likely be adding a replacement for the M6 screw as the kit screw is too long and broaches the barrel. Also Ill be adding a steel standoff post as the kit version has a scallop that sits conformal to the curve of the barrel and in the actual prop its just flat.
Let me know what you think.
Here are some quick pics that ill update/replace later this week with more details ad something a lot less blurry

Great plan here mate!!
Yep.. I'm interested too. A point to consider is that the Sidkit barrel is too short. Would it be possible to make the length more accurate?

Starr-
Fantastic info. Do you or anyone else happen to have have a better mesurement? I can get it much closer no problem.
Thanks!

Been playing around trying to put the metal sidkit barrel in a Hartford to see if this machined one fits. It's very slightly wider but shouldn't b too much trouble to fit it.
Any chance of a cut down one for the snub nose? I can post measurements

Yeah interestingly enough I measured the length against Rich’s for the prototype, but if we can come up with a length that is dead on to the original I’m on it.
Also I’m happy to do a shorter version for the snub but ill need to get measurements from you. |

I wonder If I could fit it to an offworld?
That would be sick. _________________ No! 4, 2 - 2, 4. |

Get me a drawing with the mesurements for the offworld and im sure it can be done.
-Michael
p.s. I guess what I ment to say is im not sure of the specifics of the kit as i dont have one so id be happy to come up with something we would just need ot make sure that everything is taken into account. |

The issue with the off-world is mounting steel to cheap plastic. _________________ The other Karl! |

Mate --
I know Beastmaster did a lit of measuring for his brilliant SidKit build so maybe he will have a better idea of what the actual difference is.. _________________

I was about to mount a steel rod/pipe inside my plastic barrel to give it more weight, it shouldn't be to hard to attach the barrel to this. May have to re-enforce the frame a bit and use some epoxy but It should be possible as the front will be supported by the post. Have to check tonight when I get home. _________________ No! 4, 2 - 2, 4. |

Last night I was able to machine up a good number of blanks and bore them out. I’m thinking I’ll do a run of thirty to fifty depending how interested everyone appears to be. Id like to have 10+ ready for shipping tail end of next week.
