I had completely forgotten about this until I was watching Rocketeer, but they used the interior of the house for the bad guy's home.

Some nice shot's of the walls and columns.

I was wondering if anyone might have a hi-res image of the tile they might be willing to share? Since I have access to several CAD/CAM packages and 3 different CNC machines at the high school where I work, I am going to try to create a sculpt out of MDF for a small coffee table that has an inset glass top (with about three inches of space under it to the actually table-top - right now the glass is held up by an open latticework of bamboo) similar to what photek did for his end tables.

I've looked at all the images you've all been kind enough to post up here, and looked at images on other websites about the Ennis House and tiles, and while I think it would be possible to create a 3-D model just using those, it would be easier with a higher-res image. If I don't have to totally recreate the wheel, I'm not going to! Smile

I'm also thinking of trying my hand at doing some vacuforming of a number of tiles... I have a home theater/bar in my basement, and there's this ugly furnance vent that runs along part of one wall, and I think it would look really cool covered in some replica tiles....

Thanks for any help anyone may be able to provide! I'd be willing to reciprocate with copies of the resulting CAM/CAD files... we use Rhino, SolidWorks and an older version of AutoCAD so I'm sure I can save the files in just about any format anyone could want. Thanks again!

P.S. BTW, according to this article, the restoration of the Ennis House was completed in July of 2007 - http://la.curbed.com/archives/2007/08/ennis_house_res.php

I have made 20+ of these tiles, based of pics I have taken front of Ennis House, LA. Originally my idea was to vacuumform them with ABS, but the mold I made with MDF-plates were not good enough for that. Also ABS was too expensive stuff to use, so I went "budget-BR-tiles" by doing them paper stuff. I should have the dimensions somewhere. Mine are not done into exact Ennis House size, -slightly smaller.

I believe these tiles were also used for the drug dealers apartment in Preditor II as well as many other movies. Other individuals have attempted to replicate the tiles without much sucess. Replica tiles made of cement or plastic are available from

I've found one on eBay here...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=150270423627&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=005

I believe he'll have more than one to sell, regarding his other current and past auctions...

Very clean, but I guess final price will be prohibitive... Thus.... why not to buy a ceramic tile?

Licensed by FLLW foundation, here you have it:

The ceramic ones are only 6 by 6 though.
I don't think the ebay version is a copy of an original though - it's too straight and clean.

They (motawi.com) have them in 8X8 but they're $68 for them.... a bit steep if you ask me... the 6X6 tile is only $44, but still a bit pricey for just a tile that's going to end up as a paperweight or coaster... I suppose it's mainly to help with the fundraising for the Ennis house, even though the restoration is complete, I'm sure there's going to be ongoing upkeep and maintenance that they're going to need money for.

Then again, I think about how much I've already shelled out for other prop replicas.... Shocked

I was told a member here sells the schematics but he haven't reply to my PM.

Here's the info I got from Kropserkel. I asked for the price, but I guess they don't know / aren't sure yet...

"Thank you for writing with your interest in our wall tiles / display
plaque.

We are currently working out material options for the piece, and hope
to have our details finalized on these shortly.
Currently, the 16" tiles are cast in a gypsum / flint silica
aggregate, making them heavy, but suitable for exterior decor.
Recognizing the needs of the enthusiasts, we have alternate materials
being tested at present, with the goal of making them more lightweight
for shipping.

Also, a version with mounting plates to display the PKD weapon is
underway. The accenting blank is the same sized tile, without the
design, but a raised square with bevelled edges to a smooth face.

I will keep your request on file to receive our spec sheet, and I will
send it off to you as soon as we are ready.

Thanks again, and we hope to be of service.

Sincerely,

Scott Maple, Director
Kropserkel, Inc.

Same answer received too... Smile But, 16x16" tiles could be exciting! mmm.... I must to remake a wall in my dinner room... Razz

Remakable the point of research for light materials. Seems like shipping costs are an issue for them. And for all of us too! Twisted Evil
