Curious on how easily it breaks down? One of the few reasons I like my Offworld.
I really wish I was in a place to afford one of these right now. I really like how this replica gives the impression of a real factory made gun (which to a degree it is), rather than an assemblage of parts, which the hero prop basically is. I can't wait to see what else these guys are up to.

I'm looing forward to (carefully) taking the Tomen apart. But I'm away from my shop for a few more weeks so it'll have to wait.

I'd like to know what you're referring to in terms of inadequacies? I've got my Tomenosuke displayed by my Coyle and they look damn close. Just curious.

The plastic materials and plug inserts in the barrel, cylinder and frame mandated by Japanese legislation would probably be the top items...

I didn't use the term "inadequacies". As to whether the Tomen or the Coyle is more accurate, quite frankly I could care less! That's not what I was referring to. Here are my only (very minor) issues with the Tomen:
The bolt lever flops open when the gun is inverted. It would have been nice if they'd engineered some sort of click stop to keep it in the closed position.
The grips are not quite as polished as they could be. The Hero grips look crystal clear in the reference photos. This is something I can deal with.
The aluminum grip butt has an un-finished look. It should have been more polished to keep in the style of this version, which is more that of a brand new firearm than a 25 year old prop. Again, something I can deal with.
The Weaver knob projects to far out, looks like it's post is too tall. I'm sure I can remedy this when I get back to the shop.
That's pretty much it, and I am still very happy.

We already saw the black grips... And now we see a replica Steyr clip with no modifications, so yeah! I'd say all signs point to "yes".  |

I think the bolt lever actually flops around pretty good in the sequence when it gets dropped. The floppy lever is screen accurate!

Ha! That's going a bit too screen accurate. (if that's a term)
I would like to see them build the bolt and housing so that it properly locked into place when the lever was down. My couple of pennies.

I actually find it quite natural to lay my index finger across the bolt lever, while handling the gun. Almost feels like it was designed for that!

Craig Kovach engineered his model with a bolt that locked down too. My Hartford's have nearly the same feel as his. It's a feature I prefer. The hartford's are so far from accurate anyway, why not.

With models like the new Pro and mine you can tighten the set screws in the scope mounting holes to lock the bolt.
That is if my info is right that the new Pro has real set screws like mine has, the frist model had cast in fake screws.

By all accounts, the newest versions have the look and feel of a real firearm. Wouldn't it be nice if it behaved like one and the lever didn't flop about like a toy? You should be able to slide the bolt into place and have the lever stay down.
Is it as simple as countersinking a couple tiny magnets in the right places? |

Well it was the way the real prop acted.
When Karl and I was looking at the real prop the lever just slipped open on us and that was when we found out the details of the bolt and lever, and side cover, so that is real to the real prop.
Of course it is not real to a real gun.

I guess I'm not so concerned with screen accurate as I am with the prop feeling like a real manufactured item. It should feel solid and sturdy like a real gun.
That's what I mean by "too accurate." Nothing says we can't improve the most talked about prop in Sci-Fi.
While I'm babbling, I've always had a problem with those white wires for the ammo clip LEDs. It looks like there might have originally been an interior wiring set up that failed at some point and the on set prop people had to figure something out quick to get those LEDs working so they re-wired them on the fly and left the wires exposed. If it was originally wired as seen on screen, then why not use black wires? |

I agree about the wires which is why I normally hide them
I think it would be fair easy to put a dimple in the bolt and stick a bb with a small spring under a screw to give it a pop in locking setting.
